Ecuador vs Paraguay Predictions

Ecuador can claim the points in a likely low-scoring contest in Quito.

I'm splitting my stake on a home win and under 2.5 goals scored at the Estadio Rodrigo Paz Delgado.

  • Ecuador won 3 of their last 4 home matches (World Cup qualifiers)
  • Ecuador have seen under 2.5 goals in 8 of their last 10 home matches (World Cup qualifiers)
  • Ecuador won 5 of their last 7 home matches against Paraguay
  • Paraguay lost 7 of their last 10 away matches (World Cup qualifiers)
  • Paraguay have seen under 2.5 goals in 11 of their last 13 away matches (World Cup qualifiers)

Head to Head

Ecuador and Paraguay have faced each other on 16 occasions since 1997. Both teams claimed six victories during that period.

The Ecuadorians eased to a 2-0 win when they last hosted their Paraguayan visitors in 2021.

Ecuador Form

Ecuador boosted their World Cup qualification hopes with a vital 1-0 win against Peru last month. Enner Valencia's 42nd international goal secured all three points for new boss Sebastián Beccacece.

La Tri slipped to a 1-0 defeat in Brazil three days prior to their narrow win in Quito four weeks ago. Now eight games into the qualification campaign, Ecuador sit fourth in the section, seven points behind pacesetters Argentina.

Sebastián Beccacece's men boast a strong record in home World Cup qualification fixtures, remaining unbeaten in each of their last ten qualifiers in Quito.

Ecuador Squad & Team News

Goalkeepers: Hernán Galíndez, Moisés Ramírez, Gonzalo Valle
Defenders: Ángelo Preciado, Pervis Estupiñán, Félix Torres, Piero Hincapié, Cristian Ramírez, Xavier Arreaga, Willian Pacho, Jhoanner Chávez, Joel Ordóñez
Midfielders: Moisés Caicedo, Alan Franco, Gonzalo Plata, Jeremy Sarmiento, Kendry Páez, John Yeboah, Alan Minda, Pedro Vite, John Mercado, Óscar Zambrano
Forwards: Enner Valencia (captain), Kevin Rodríguez, Leonardo Campana

Sebastián Beccacece has a 25-man squad available for Ecuador's upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Paraguay and Uruguay.

Hull City midfielder Óscar Zambrano is one of two uncapped players included in the Ecuadorian selection.

Paraguay Form

Paraguay make the trip to Ecuador after giving their qualification hopes a massive boost in September. After a gusty 0-0 draw in Uruguay, Gustavo Alfaro's side scored a sensational 1-0 win against Brazil, thanks to captain Gustavo Gomez's second-half strike.

Los Guaraníes had picked up just five points from their first six World Cup qualifiers since last September.

A poor away record has been a major issue for several years. Paraguay failed to win 12 of their 13 World Cup qualifiers on the road since the turn of the decade.

Paraguay Squad & Team News

Goalkeepers: Carlos Coronel, Alfredo Aguilar, Rodrigo Morínigo
Defenders: Gustavo Gómez (captain), Júnior Alonso, Fabián Balbuena, Omar Alderete, Iván Ramírez, Matías Espinoza, Néstor Giménez, Gustavo Velázquez
Midfielders: Miguel Almirón, Mathías Villasanti, Richard Sánchez, Alejandro Romero Gamarra, Andrés Cubas, Matías Rojas, Hernesto Caballero, Damián Bobadilla, Fabrizio Peralta
Forwards: Derlis González, Ángel Romero, Julio Enciso, Ramón Sosa, Adam Bareiro, Alex Arce

Gustavo Alfaro has a 28-man group to choose from on Thursday. Premier League trio Julio Enciso, Miguel Almiron and Ramón Sosa have all been included in the Los Guaraníes selection.

Experienced duo Derlis González and Richard Sánchez are among the notable absentees for the away side.

Verdict

Ecuador have enough quality to claim victory in a potentially low-scoring World Cup qualifier.

A home win is my primary pick, while I also expect less than three goals scored.
