Faroe Islands vs Scotland Predictions

Faroe Islands have held Scotland to draws in two of their last three home matches. But they were back in 1999 and 2002 and this is a much better Scotland team.

I'm tipping Scotland to win to nil with Lyndon Dykes to make it goals in four straight World Cup qualifiers.

  • Faroe Islands have lost 6 of their last 8 matches (all competitions).
  • Scotland have won their last 5 matches against the Faroe Islands (all competitions).
  • SCotland have won to nil in their last 4 matches against the Faroe Islands (all competitions).
  • Scotland have won their last 3 matches (World Cup).
  • Scotland's Lyndon Dykes has scored in his last 3 matches (World Cup).

Head to Head

Scotland have won eight of their 10 matches played against the Faroe Islands, including the last five in a row.

The other two matches ended in draws with those stalemates both coming in the Faroe Islands.

Faroe Islands Form

Faroe Islands suffered a 2-0 defeat at home to Austria on Saturday, a fifth loss of the qualifying campaign.

Hakan Ericson's side sit second from bottom in Group F after a 1-1 draw and 2-1 win against Moldova.

The Faroes also proved a tough nut to crack at home against group leaders Denmark, who needed an 85th minute winner in a 1-0 victory.

Faroe Islands Squad & Team News

Goalkeepers: Gunnar Nielsen, Teitur Gestsson, Mattias Lamhauge
Defenders: Heri Mohr, Daniel Johansen, Heini Vatnsdal, Sonni Nattestad, Hørður Askham, Odmar Færø
Midfielders: Hallur Hansson, Brandur Hendriksson Olsen, Gilli Rólantsson Sørensen, Sølvi Vatnhamar, Gunnar Vatnhamar, Tróndur Jensen, Jákup Andreasen, Meinhard Olsen, René Shaki Joensen
Forwards: Andreas Olsen, Klæmint Olsen, Jóan Símun Edmundsson, Petur Knudsen, John Frederiksen

Hakan Ericson is expected to opt for the same side which started against Austria.

Jóan Símun Edmundsson will be the lone striker in Faroe Islands' 4-5-1 formation.

Scotland Form

Scotland are in control of second spot in Group F after a dramatic 3-2 win over third placed Israel on Saturday.

Seemingly set for a 2-2 draw at Hampden Park after twice coming from behind, Scott McTominay struck a 94th minute winner for Steve Clarke's side.

It was a third straight win for Scotland, who recorded 1-0 wins over Moldova and Austria in September.

Scotland Squad & Team News

Goalkeepers: Craig Gordon, Jon McLaughlin, Liam Kelly
Defenders: Stephen O'Donnell, Nathan Patterson, Jack Hendry, Grant Hanley, Scott McKenna, Liam Cooper, Kieran Tierney, Andy Robertson
Midfielders: Billy Gilmour, Kenny McLean, Callum McGregor, Stuart Armstrong, David Turnbull, John McGinn, Lewis Ferguson, Scott McTominay
Forwards: Lyndon Dykes, Che Adams, Ryan Christie, Ryan Fraser, Kevin Nisbet

Grant Hanley is available after serving a one-game suspension against Israel, but he may have to settle for a place on the bench.

Defender Greg Taylor and midfielder James Forrest aren't part of Steve Clarke's squad for this international window.

Verdict

Faroe Islands have put up some stubborn resistance at home during this qualifying campaign and Scotland will need to be smart to break them down.

I'm tipping they will do it and win to nil with Lyndon Dykes to continue his goalscoring form.
