Guinea-Bissau are currently second in Group A of the CAF World Cup qualifiers with five points from three matches, four points off their opponents who top the group. If they harbour hopes of taking top spot at the end of the campaign, this is a must-win game.

Back in November 2023, Guinea-Bissau drew 1-1 in Burkina Faso in their first World Cup qualifier. That was followed by a 1-0 away success against Dibouti.

Guinea-Bissau then lost four matches on the bounce, a friendly against Mali and all three games at the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year. Last week, as they returned to action in the World Cup qualifiers, Guinea-Bissau were disappointing in their 0-0 home draw against Ethiopia.

Guinea-Bissau still have a shot at closing the gap on Egypt if they can get a result in this game. There should be quite a few changes after the poor performance against Ethiopia last week.

Egypt have won all three of their World Cup qualifiers to date, beating Djibouti at home and Seirra Leone in November last year.

The Egyptians had a disappointing AFCON tournament, drawing all three group games 2-2 against Mozambique, Ghana and Cape Verde. They reached the second round where they lost to Congo DR on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

Egypt then went on to beat New Zealand and lose to Croatia in two friendlies. Last week, Egypt won 2-1 at home against Burkina Faso in their return to World Cup qualifiers.

Expect a few changes to the Egyptian team following their win last week. They’ve had to travel and were not all that convincing on home soil.
