Lithuania showed solid defending in their 1-0 away loss to Poland on Friday. Finland won against Malta, but that game could have easily ended in a draw. I expect a close match in Kaunas and see these two sides sharing the spoils.

Lithuania had terrible results in second half of 2024, wrapping up the previous year with six consecutive defeats in the UEFA Nations League.

They scored in both of the October appearances at home, but lost both matches against Kosovo 2-1 and Romania 2-1.

Gvidas Gineitis’ second-half goal was not enough to end the losing run against Cyprus in mid-November, losing that encounter 2-1. A couple of days later, the Yellow and Greens were also beaten in Prishtina by Kosovo 1-0 to finish last in the UNL group.

They started the World Cup 2026 qualifying campaign with a narrow 1-0 loss at Poland on Friday, conceding in the 81st minute, ending the match with 0.66-1.73 expected goals, 39% possession and 8-24 shots.

Finland also had a disastrous run in their UEFA Nations League B campaign, losing all six games and got relegated to a lower division in late 2024.

They wrapped up that season with a 1-0 defeat against Republic of Ireland in Dublin and a 2-0 home loss against Greece, having a combined xG of 0.94 goals in these two encounters.

Finland had a successful start to the World Cup 2026 qualifiers though, clinching three points against Malta 1-0 on Friday. Oliver Antman was the only scorer, finding the net in the 38th minute.
