Nepal vs Australia Predictions

Australia have dominated upon their return to international football. They defeated Nepal 5-0 in their last meeting and I will be backing the Socceroos to win 5-0 again.

  • Nepal have conceded 19 goals in their last 6 group matches (AFC World Cup Qualifiers).
  • Nepal have lost 4 of their last 6 group matches (AFC World Cup Qualifiers).
  • Australia have won 4 of their last 6 matches to nil (all competitions).

  • Australia have scored 24 goals in their last 6 group matches (AFC World Cup Qualifiers).
  • Australia have conceded 2 goals in their last 6 group matches (AFC World Cup Qualifiers).
  • Australia beat Nepal 5-0 in their last meeting (AFC World Cup Qualifiers).

Head to Head

These two sides have only ever met on the one occasion. The Socceroos picked up a big 5-0 win with striker Jamie Maclaren scoring a hattrick.

Australia Form

The Socceroos returned to the international stage in triumphant fashion.

Despite playing their first match in nearly two years, Australia cruised home to a 3-0 win over Kuwait.

Winger Matthew Leckie opened the scoring in the first minute, before midfielders Jackson Irvine and Ajdin Hrustic added goals of their own.

Australia Injuries & Team News

Head coach Graham Arnold made nine changes to his starting line up in the last match. Given Australia has already qualified for the next round, it is likely several more magnets will be shifted this week.

Celtic midfielder Tom Rogic did not join the squad for personal reasons, while midfielder Aaron Mooy has been unable to travel due to coronavirus restrictions.

Nepal Form

Nepal’s last friendly prior to the return of their World Cup Qualifiers ended in a 6-2 defeat to Iraq. Midfielder Anjan Bista equalised two minutes after Iraq had opened the scoring in the seventh minute.

His teammate Marish Dangi gave Nepal the lead in the 30th minute, but that was all the visitors could muster as Iraq scored the next five goals.

Nepal then recorded their second group stage win with a 2-0 win over Chinese Taipei. Bista wasted little time in opening the scoring when he slotted a penalty in the third minute.

Veteran striker Nawayug Shrestha then sealed the win with an 81st minute goal.

A 3-0 defeat to Jordan followed a few days later, ending any hope of them qualifying into the next round.
