Brazil gave their World Cup campaign a boost with a much-needed win as they beat Ecuador 1-0 at home on Friday thanks to Rodrygo's first-half goal.

It was a significant win after Dorival Júnior’s side, who has won just two of their previous six matches in qualifying.

That poor run of form was carried over in the Copa America in the summer with Brazil exited at the quarter-final stage on penalties after a 0-0 draw with Uruguay.
