Peru vs Venezuela Predictions

Peru have seen plenty of low-scoring matches this year, and I expect that pattern to continue in Lima.

I´m backing under 2.5 goals with plenty of confidence, while I also like Venezuela in the double chance market.

  • Peru have seen under 2.5 goals in 10 of their last 11 matches
  • Peru have seen under 2.5 goals in 7 of their last 8 home matches (World Cup qualifiers)
  • Peru have failed to win 8 of their last 10 matches
  • Peru have seen under 2.5 goals in 3 of their last 4 matches against Venezuela
  • Venezuela have seen under 2.5 goals in 7 of their last 8 matches
  • Venezuela are unbeaten in 13 of their last 15 matches
  • Venezuela are unbeaten in their last 4 matches (World Cup qualifiers)

Head to Head

In matches played this century, Peru has a 10-to-6 advantage in their H2H record against Venezuela. La Blanquirroja have won each of their three most recent contests, including a 1-0 win at this venue in 2021.

Usually tight affairs, just five goals have been scored in the last four matches between these nations.

Peru Form

Peru´s miserable World Cup qualification form continued last week with a 2-0 defeat against Bolivia in La Paz. La Blanquirroja have lost each of their last four qualifiers after opening their campaign with a goalless draw against Paraguay.

After five qualifiers played this year, Peru find themselves bottom of the group with no goals scored and just a solitary point collected. Juan Reynoso´s strugglers have scored just three goals in their last ten international fixtures, while they have not won a competitive match since March 2022.

Peru Squad & Team News

Goalkeepers: Pedro Gallese, Carlos Cáceda, Alejandro Duarte, Diego Romero
Defenders: Luis Advíncula, Miguel Trauco, Carlos Zambrano, Aldo Corzo, Luis Abram, Alexander Callens, Marcos López, Miguel Araujo, Oliver Sonne
Midfielders: Yoshimar Yotún, Renato Tapia, Pedro Aquino, Sergio Peña, Wilder Cartagena, Alexis Arias, Piero Quispe, Walter Tandazo
Forwards: Paolo Guerrero (captain), André Carrillo, Edison Flores, Andy Polo, Gianluca Lapadula, Santiago Ormeño, Bryan Reyna, Joao Grimaldo, Franco Zanelatto, Matías Succar

Peruvian boss Reynoso is sure to make changes to his selection after last week´s poor performance in Bolivia.

Reynoso will be forced into at least one alteration to his starting XI, with Luis Advincula unavailable through suspension. Aldo Corzo is a likely deputy at right-back.

Venezuela Form

Venezuela extended their unbeaten qualification run to four matches with a hard-fought draw against Ecuador on Thursday. Fernando Batista´s men have picked up eight points from five qualifiers to leave them on course for a first-ever World Cup qualification.

Once the whipping boys of South America, the Wine-Red have lost just one of their last 12 matches since September 2022.

In their most recent road trip, Batista´s boys secured a shock 1-1 draw against Brazil.

Venezuela Squad & Team News

Goalkeepers: Alain Baroja, Rafael Romo, Joel Graterol
Defenders: Roberto Rosales, Alexander González, Wilker Ángel, Yordan Osorio, Nahuel Ferraresi, Luis Mago, Christian Makoun, Miguel Navarro, Jon Aramburu
Midfielders: Tomás Rincón (captain), Rómulo Otero, Darwin Machís, Júnior Moreno, Yeferson Soteldo, Jefferson Savarino, Yangel Herrera, José Martínez, Cristian Cásseres, Eduard Bello, Samuel Sosa, Jesús Bueno
Forwards: Salomón Rondón (vice-captain), Sergio Córdova, Eric Ramírez

Fernando Batista has no new injury issues after Venezuela´s 0-0 draw with Ecuador. Salomon Rondon will continue to lead the attack, with unattached forward Josef Martínez not included in the Venezuelan selection.

Verdict

Another South American low-scorer seems likely in Lima this Wednesday morning.

I´m backing under 2.5 goals as my primary selection, while I also fancy the visitors to claim at least a draw at the Estadio Nacional de Lima.
