Fernando Santos’ side started the World Cup with a 3-2 win against Ghana with Cristiano Ronaldo, João Félix and Rafael Leão on target. They then beat Uruguay 2-0 with Bruno Fernandes scoring both goals.

Portugal ended the group stage with a 2-1 defeat to South Korea. Ricardo Horta opened the scoring in the 5th minute but they failed to close it out, little motivation after securing top spot in Group H.

Switzerland went undefeated in eight World Cup qualifiers, recording five wins and three draws to finish above Italy in Group C.

Murat Yakin’s side won their final three games in the Nations League, beating Portugal 1-0, winning 2-1 in Spain and beating Czech Republic 2-1.

The Red Crosses started the World Cup with a 1-0 win against Cameroon, Breel Embolo netting the winner in the 48th minute. They bunkered down against Brazil, losing 1-0 without registering a shot on target.

Switzerland ended the group stage with a thrilling 3-2 win against Serbia. Xherdan Shaqiri opened the scoring before they fell behind, goals to Breel Embolo and Remo Freuler regaining the lead and a spot in the Round of 16.
