Cyprus kicked off their World Cup 2026 qualifying campaign with a 2-0 home victory against San Marino in mid-March, Ioannis Pittas and Andronikos Kakoullis appearing on the scoresheet.

They looked solid in first half in the second round against Bosnia & Herzegovina, Pittas finding an equalizer just before the break, but eventually lost that clash 2-1.

Last Friday, Cyprus locked horns with Bulgaria in an international friendly in Plovdiv. They were behind two times but got away with a 2-2 draw, Nicolas Koutsakos and Konstantinos Lafis on target.

Radu Dragusin, Ianis Hagi and Valentin Mihaila are sidelined with injuries for the home side. Nicolae Stanciu is the captain with 81 appearances and 15 goals.
