Head to Head

There has been little to split these two nations down the years with the United States holding a 15-12 head to head advantage with five draws.

USMNT have won the last three in a row with wins to nil in friendlies in 2019, 2020 and most recently in June this year.

United States Form

United States lost for the first time in qualifying - and lost top spot - when going down 1-0 away to Panama on Sunday.

It was a much-changed USMNT side from the line-up which comfortably brushed aside Jamaica 2-0 three days earlier.

Gregg Berhalter's side opened qualifying with draws with El Salvador and Canada before hammering Honduras 4-1 with a four-goal second-half showing.

Gregg Berhalter made seven changes in the defeat to Panama, and is likely to recall several of the side which defeated Jamaica last week.

Two-goal hero Ricardo Pepi, Antonee Robinson, Sergiño Dest, Miles Robinson, Weston McKennie, Brenden Aaronson and Tyler Adams are all expected to be recalled.

Back up goalkeeper Zack Steffen and defender Antonee Robinson missed the trip to Panama to avoid quarantine requirements upon their return to club duty in England.

Costa Rica Form

Costa Rica got their first win of the qualifying campaign on Sunday with a 2-1 victory at home to El Salvador.

Luis Fernando Suarez's side came from a goal down to end their wait for a win thanks to goals from veterans Bryan Ruiz and Celso Borges.

Costa Rica had drawn three of their first four games against Panama, Jamaica and Honduras, and lost 1-0 at home to Mexico.
