Venezuela host Paraguay in a World Cup qualifier at the Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano de Merida on Tuesday. Paraguay picked up a point in their opening match and will fancy their chances of an away win against a Venezuela who look toothless in attack.

Venezuela Form

Venezuela made it through to the 2019 Copa America quarter-finals where they lost 2-0 to Argentina. They got through via two draws with Brazil and Peru before beating Bolivia 3-1.

Since their Copa America exit, Venezuela have played four friendly matches and one World Cup qualifier. It began with a 0-0 draw in Colombia before three straight victories. Venezuela beat Bolivia at home 4-1 before seeing off Trinidad and Tobago 2-0 at home.

That was followed by a convincing 4-1 victory in Japan. In Venezuela’s last match they suffered a 3-0 away defeat to Colombia in their opening World Cup qualifying match.

Venezuela News

With Salomon Rondon missing in attack Venezuela is missing experience and more crucially goals. He has scored 30 goals in his 80 international caps.

Fernando Aristeguieta, Sergio Cordova, Andres Ponce and Eric Ramirez have scored a combined total of two goals in 35 international matches. Cordova didn’t improve that record after starting against Colombia while Ponce came off the bench and failed to impress.

Manager Jose Peseiro wouldn’t have enjoyed his first game in charge after replacing Rafael Dudamel in February, but will hope to get some points in his first home match.

Paraguay Form

Paraguay have drawn three of their last four matches with one victory. Having not qualified for the last FIFA World Cup Paraguay will be keen to rectify that, and in order to achieve that they need to get victories in games such as this.

Paraguay drew with Slovakia back in October 2019 before beating Bulgaria 1-0 away on the same European tour. That was followed by a 0-0 draw in Saudi Arabia.

In Paraguay’s last outing, which was also their opening World Cup qualifier, ended 2-2 at home against Peru. Angel Romero showed his quality by scoring both goals for Paraguay.

Paraguay News

Forward Angel Romero may have done enough to force his way into the starting line-up after scoring twice off the bench against Peru.

Paraguay are not expected to make many changes considering the impressive draw against a strong Peru outfit.

Paraguay Squad

Venezuela vs Paraguay Head to Head

Paraguay lead Venezuela 8-5 in their 16 previous matches along with three draws. The last match between the two took place in the World Cup qualifiers in 2017 where Venezuela won 1-0 in Paraguay.

Interestingly there has not been a home victory in the last six matches between these two sides.

Venezuela vs Paraguay Odds

Venezuela are priced at 3.50 to win with Paraguay favourites at 1.80. A draw is available at odds of 3.90 with bet365.

Venezuela vs Paraguay Match Up

Venezuela have a severe shortage of international goals within their squad so they could struggle without Salomon Rondon. Defensively they have let goals in as well which is something Paraguay will look to take advantage of.
