Gwangju vs Ulsan HD Predictions

An evenly-matched Korean Cup clash seems likely to see goals at both ends. BTTS is my best bet for Wednesday's cup contest.

Stats

  • Gwangju have seen BTTS in 5 of their last 6 matches
  • Gwangju have seen BTTS in 2 of their last 3 matches against Ulsan HD
  • Ulsan HD have seen BTTS in 6 of their last 7 matches (domestic fixtures)

Head to Head

Gwangju and Ulsan HD have met on 32 occasions since 2000. Ulsan lead the H2H with 19 victories, while Gwangju claimed five wins. Eight games finished deadlocked.

Gwangju Form

Gwangju turn their attention to Korean Cup business after a much-needed 2-1 win at Anyang last week. Jasir Asani's sixth goal of the season secured a vital three KL1 points for GFC.

Lee Jung-Hyo's side had failed to win five of six previous fixtures before their away success last Thursday. A poor run of home form has seen the hosts fail to win any of their last five matches at the World Cup Stadium. Gwangju now sit fifth in the KL1, two points ahead of Ulsan, albeit having played two games more.

A lack of clean sheets has been a big issue for GFC this season. Jung-Hyo's men conceded at least one goal in all but three of 14 previous matches (all competitions).

Gwangju Team News

Head coach Jung-Hyo has no new injury or suspension issues, but remains unable to call on four first-team players this week. Je-ho Yu, Bruno Oliveira, Jin-ho Kim and Kyeong-min Kim are expected to remain unavailable.

Ulsan HD Form

Ulsan return to domestic affairs after an unsuccessful appearance at the FIFA Club World Cup. The Tigers picked up no points having lost all three group fixtures against Mamelodi Sundowns (1-0), Fluminense (4-2) and Dortmund (1-0).

Kim Pan-Gon's side had lost just one of eight previous fixtures before their disappointing performance in the USA. Six of those games also saw both teams get on the scoresheet.

Currently seventh in the KL1, Ulsan sit just six points behind second-placed Daejeon Hana, and with two games in hand.

Ulsan HD Team News

Kim Pan-Gon could freshen up his selection after last week's defeat against Borussia Dortmund. Won-Sang Um is the only confirmed absentee for the Tigers.

Verdict

Neither side has convinced defensively in recent weeks, and I expect both to concede again this week. BTTS is my top tip on Wednesday.
