  • France have won to nil in their last 4 matches.
  • France’s Jean-Philippe Mateta has scored 2 goals in his last 2 matches.

Head to Head

This is going to be the first head to head encounter between France and Egypt in the Olympics.

France Form

France’s results and performances have been impressive in the group stages, winning all three encounters. They kicked things off with a commanding 3-0 victory against the United States, all three goals being scored in the second half through Alexandre Lacazette, Michael Olise and Loic Bade.

Les Bleus made it two in a row in the second round with a narrow 1-0 victory against Guinea, Kiliann Sildillia on target in the 75th minute.

They wrapped up the group stages with a convincing 3-0 win over New Zealand, Jean-Philippe Mateta breaking the deadlock in 19th minute, Desire Doue and Arnaud Kalimuendo finishing the job in the second half.

France scored early in their quarterfinal match against Argentina through Jean-Philippe Mateta, which turned out to be the final score, ending the game with 0.74-1.10 expected goals, 39% possession and 9-15 shots.

Alexandre Lacazette, Loic Bade and Jean-Phillip Mateta are the three overage players.

Egypt Form

Egypt collected seven points in their three matches and won Group C ahead of Spain, Dominican Republic and Uzbekistan.

Their premiere appearance in the Olympics 2024 was far from impressive, a goalless draw against Dominican Republic, having 1.41-0.83 expected goals, 48% possession and 12-15 shots.

The first victory was secured in the second round, beating Uzbkekistan 1-0, Ahmed Koka scoring the only goal in first half.

Egypt caused an upset in the third round by defeating Spain 2-1, Ibrahim Adel finding the net in 40th and 62nd minute.

The Pharaohs earned their place in the semi-finals by beating Paraguay on penalties. They conceded in 71st minute, while Ibrahim Adel found an equalizer just two minutes before the final whistle.

Verdict

France’s run has been impressive so far in the Olympics, winning all four games without conceding a single goal. Egypt sneaked their way to the semifinal and I don’t see them doing any damage to the hosts.
