Stuttgart’s promotion hopes in the 2 Bundesliga have been kept alive by their strong home form at the Mercedes-Benz Arena. Nurnberg are battling at the wrong end of the table and expected to fall to another defeat on Monday night.

Stuttgart Form

Stuttgart have been inconsistent in recent weeks but their home form remains strong. The Swabians have won 10 of their last 12 home matches in the 2 Bundesliga.

A convincing 3-0 home win against Karlsruher saw Philipp Förster, Orel Mangala and Hamadi Al Ghaddioui get on the score sheet before a 2-1 defeat at Sandhausen. It was a tough loss for Tim Walter’s side who had 73% possession, 29-16 shots and 15-6 corners.

A Silas Wamangituka penalty came too late but the Congo DR striker probably did enough to earn a start against Nurnberg.

Stuttgart News

Central defender and captain Marc Oliver Kempf remains suspended with Nathaniel Phillips to continue alongside Holger Badstuber at the heart of defence. Left-back Borna Sosa could be ready to start which would mean Gonzalo Castro can move back into midfield.

Attacking midfielder Daniel Didavi is still injured with striker Sasa Kalajdzic out until 2020. Silas Wamangituka, Hamadi Al Ghaddioui, Nicolás Gonzalez and Mario Gomez compete for the attacking positions.

Nurnberg Form

Nurnberg’s season is going from bad to worse after three defeats in their last four matches in the 2 Bundesliga. A 5-1 home defeat to Arminia Bielefeld was followed by a 0-0 draw at Greuther Fürth and a 2-0 home defeat to bottom club Wehen Wiesbaden.

Manager Jens Keller took over in mid-November but hasn’t seen his side able to score in both matches in charge. Nurnberg had 66% possession against Wehen Wiesbaden and 24-5 shots but only four of those were on target.

Nurnberg News

Nurnberg’s goalkeeping injury crisis continues with Christian Mathenia, Patric Klandt, Andreas Lukse and Jonas Wendlinger all injured. 18-year-old Benedikt Willert got a chance but let in eight goals in two games, free agent Felix Dornebusch was brought in and he didn’t have a great game against Wehen Wiesbaden.

Central defender Georg Margreitter is injured and winger Virgil Misidjan, Nurnberg’s most creative player, is ruled out until the New Year. One ray of hope is Swedish striker Mikael Ishak who is fit again and could be an option off the bench.

Stuttgart vs Nurnberg Head to Head
