‘The Club’ are finding life back in the Bundesliga tough with just 10 points gained after 12 matches. Nurnberg are one point above the relegation zone after losing their last two matches including a 5-2 defeat at Schalke last time out.

Michael Köllner’s side were all over the place defensively and goalkeeper Christian Mathenia had a shocker. Federico Palacios got it back to 2-1 before half-time but Robert Bauer’s 67th minute sending off couldn’t be overcome despite Adam Zrelák making it 3-2 with 12 minutes remaining.

Bauer is suspended here and with Enrico Valentini injured Nurnberg have problems at right-back. Holding midfielder Eduard Löwen is also injured with Köllner needing for find defensive stability.

He could shake things up a bit here with Virgil Misidjan and Adam Zrelák in contention in attack. However, Nurnberg have conceded the most goals in the Bundesliga this season with 29 shipped in at 2.42 a game.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen Form & Team News


Bayer Leverkusen recorded a routine 2-0 home win against Stuttgart in their last Bundesliga match with Kevin Volland scoring both goals. Heiko Herrlich’s side climbed to 12th position on the table which highlights their inconsistency this season. 

The Werkself have been slightly more solid recently with the return of central midfielders Charles Aránguiz and Julian Baumgartlinger. Herrlich made a number of changes in their 1-1 home draw against Ludogorets in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday.

Mitchell Weiser scored a lovely goal in the 85th minute to rescue a point, and the German club will qualify for the knockout rounds with one match to spare. Panagiotis Retsos started the match but was forced off in the 34th minute and could be set for another spell on the sidelines.

Leverkusen will return to full strength in Nurnberg with Jonathan Tah, Kai Havertz, Julian Brandt, Karim Bellarabi and Kevin Volland all starting.

Leverkusen edge this contest with a 25-12 record and have won the last five matches. However, matches in Nurnberg have been evenly matched with the Werkself having a slight 10-9 advantage.
