Argentina vs Guatemala Predictions

Argentina will surely claim a straightforward victory in Saturday's international friendly.

I'm backing the world champions to win with a clean sheet in Maryland.

  • Argentina won 12 of their last 13 matches
  • Argentina kept a clean sheet in 11 of their last 12 victories
  • Argentina won their last 3 matches against Guatemala
  • Guatemala failed to score in their last 3 matches against Argentina
  • Guatemala lost 5 of their last 10 matches (friendlies)
  • Guatemala failed to score in 8 of their last 10 matches (friendlies)

Head to Head

Friday's friendly contest will be the fourth-ever meeting between these nations. Argentina eased to victory in all three previous encounters, scoring 12 goals while conceding none.

Argentina Form

Argentina began their Copa America preparations with a narrow 1-0 win against Ecuador in Chicago earlier this week. Angel di Maria's 31st international goal proved the difference at Soldier Field.

Lionel Scaloni's side have won all three friendly fixtures played this year, while they have kept clean sheets in 11 of 13 internationals since the World Cup final in 2022.

The world champions remain near-invincible. Argentina are unbeaten in 54 of their last 56 matches since 2019.

La Albicelestehave an outstanding record in recent friendly fixtures, winning 14 and drawing two of their last 16 non-competitive contests.

Argentina Squad & Team News

Goalkeepers: Franco Armani, Gerónimo Rulli, Emiliano Martínez
Defenders: Lucas Martínez Quarta, Nicolás Tagliafico, Gonzalo Montiel, Germán Pezzella, Marcos Acuña, Cristian Romero, Nicolás Otamendi, Lisandro Martínez, Nahuel Molina, Leonardo Balerdi, Valentín Barco
Midfielders: Leandro Paredes, Rodrigo De Paul, Exequiel Palacios, Giovani Lo Celso, Guido Rodríguez, Alexis Mac Allister, Enzo Fernández, Valentín Carboni
Forwards: Julián Álvarez, Lionel Messi (captain), Ángel Di María (vice-captain), Nicolás González, Alejandro Garnacho, Ángel Correa, Lautaro Martínez

Head coach Scaloni is likely to field something close to his favoured starting XI on Saturday. Lionel Messi should return to the selection after appearing as a second-half substitute in Monday's win against Ecuador.

Enzo Fernandez and Ezequiel Palacios are both in contention for a return to the Argentine midfield.

Guatemala Form

Guatemala come into this weekend's friendly fixture in good spirits after picking up back-to-back high-scoring World Cup qualification wins against Dominica (6-0) and the British Virgin Islands (3-0) in March.

Luis Tena's side had failed to win eight successive matches before their recent WC qualifying victories.

Los Chapines are now unbeaten in their last four international fixtures after securing friendly draws with Venezuela and Nicaragua earlier this year.

Guatemala Squad & Team News

Goalkeepers: Nicholas Hagen, Fredy Pérez
Defenders: José Ardón, Nicolás Samayoa, Aaron Herrera, José Carlos Pinto (captain), José Morales, Cristian Jiménez, Kevin Ruiz
Midfielders: Pedro Altán, Carlos Mejía, Marlon Sequen, Jorge Aparicio, Alejandro Galindo, Óscar Castellanos, Antonio López, Marco Domínguez, Elmer Cardoza, Jonathan Franco
Forwards: Rubio Rubin, Darwin Lom, Oscar Santis

Guatemala boss Luis Fernando Tena has a 22-man squad available for Friday's friendly encounter. Experienced midfielder Rodrigo Saravia has not been included in the Los Chapines selection.

Mexican-based forward Rubio Rubin is expected to lead the Guatemalan attack.

Argentina should have little difficulty in easing past their overmatched opponents on Saturday.

I'm backing Argentina to win and to keep a clean sheet at FedEX field.
