France host Ukraine an international friendly at Stade de France in Paris on Wednesday. Les Bleus are the World Cup champions and should slay a Ukraine side decimated by injuries and the coronavirus.

France qualified for the European Championship after finishing top of Group H. They won six of their final seven matches to finish two points above Turkey.

Les Bleus started the UEFA Nations League with a 1-0 win in Sweden. Kylian Mbappé scored the winner with Antoine Griezmann missing a late penalty.

France beat Croatia 4-2 in their previous match. Goals to Antoine Griezmann, Dayot Upamecano and Olivier Giroud overturned an early deficit in Paris. 

Didier Deschamps’ side have now won four of their last five Nations League matches.

Right back Benjamin Pavard is back in the squad with Ferland Mendy dropping out. 

Midfield is boosted with the return of Paul Pogba and Corentin Tolisso. Lyon star Houssem Aouar earned his first call up with Moussa Sissoko missing out.

Attacker Kingsley Coman is another player back in the squad with Jonathan Ikoné and Nabil Fekir omitted.

Olivier Giroud is in line to earn his 100th cap.

Ukraine Form


Ukraine qualified for the UEFA European Championship in style. They won six of their eight matches with two draws, finishing three points ahead of Portugal in Group B.

Andriy Shevchenko’s side won 2-0 against Lithuania and 2-1 against Portugal to wrap up top spot. They drew 2-2 in Serbia to conclude their qualifying campaign.

Ukraine won 2-1 against Switzerland in the UEFA Nations League. Andriy Yarmolenko scored in the 14th minute and Oleksandr Zinchenko scored an 88th minute winner.

Their last match was a disappointing 4-0 loss in Spain. Ukraine were well beaten in Madrid, down 3-0 after 32 minutes and managing just 30% possession and four shots.

Ukraine have had problems on the road in the Nations League, losing by 3+ goals in their last two away matches. The 4-0 defeat in Spain was preceded by a 4-1 loss in Slovakia.

Goalkeeper and captain Andriy Pyatov has earned 95 caps but is unavailable  
after testing positive for coronavirus. That leaves uncapped Heorhii Bushchan as the only goalkeeper available after Andriy Lunin and Yuriy Pankiv tested positive.

Defence has been shaken up with Vitaliy Mykolenko, Bohdan Mykhaylichenko, Yevhen Cheberko, Yukhym Konoplya and Illya Zabarnyi all called up. Mykola Matviyenko, Serhiy Kryvtsov, Serhiy Bolbat are all out.

Defensive midfielder Taras Stepanenko also tested positive before the team flew to France. Midfielder Roman Bezus is back and is in line to earn his 23rd cap.

More big names are not in the squad with Yevhen Konoplyanka, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Viktor Kovalenko, Marlos and Júnior Moraes all missing.
