Paraguay vs Colombia Predictions

Another tight and low-scoring contest seems likely on Tuesday, so I´m taking under 2.5 goals as my primary selection.

With Colombia in great form and boosted by their super win against Brazil last week, I also fancy the visitors to snare a narrow away win.

Colombia have an excellent recent record in their H2H with Paraguay. Since 2009, they have won seven and lost just one of ten matches against Tuesday´s home side.

Victors in three of their last four visits to Asuncion, Los Cafeteros claimed a 2-0 win when these nations last met in a friendly contest in 2021. Paraguay have not beaten Colombia on home soil since 1997.

Paraguay picked up a battling away point after a goalless draw with Chile last week. Reduced to ten men just before half-time, Daniel Garnero´s side held firm to earn their fifth point of the qualification campaign.

Short on attacking fire-power, La Albirroja have scored just one goal in their last five matches. Only three goals have been scored in Paraguay´s five World Cup qualification matches this year.

However, the hosts remain unbeaten in their last six home fixtures since March 2022.

Daniel Garnero will be forced into at least one change to his selection after Roberto Rojas dismissal in Thursday´s 0-0 draw against Chile. Juan Cáceres is expected to deputise.

Miguel Almirón remains unavailable for La Albirroja. Antonio Sanabria will instead offer attacking creativity in the absence of the Newcastle forward.

Colombia Form

Colombia scored a sensational come-from-behind victory to upset Brazil 2-1 in Barranquilla last week. A double strike from an emotional Luis Diaz turned the tide for the improving Tricolor.

Néstor Lorenzo´s side remain unbeaten after five qualification matches this year and now sit third in the group with nine points accrued.

Los Cafeteros have lost just two of nine away World Cup qualifiers since June 2021.

Néstor Lorenzo could make one or two changes to his selection after Thursday´s dramatic win against Brazil. Mateus Uribe and Deiver Machado were both replaced at the interval in Barranquilla and may drop out, with Cristián Borja and Luis Sinisterra in contention for a recall to the first XI.

Juan Cuadrado and Santiago Arias remain notable injury absentees from the Colombian squad.

With both nations tight in defence, a low-scoring battle seems near-inevitable at the Estadio Defensores del Chaco.
