Spain travel to Lisbon to take on Portugal in an international friendly on Wednesday. Little separates these Iberian neighbours with a close contest expected at Estádio José Alvalade.

Portugal Form

Portugal qualified for the European Championship after finishing second in Group B. Fernando Santos’ side lost 2-1 in Ukraine but rebounded with a 6-0 win against Lithuania and 2-0 win in Luxembourg.

The Seleção started their UEFA Nations League campaign with a 4-1 win against Croatia. They were far too strong in Porto even without Ronaldo, João Cancelo, Diogo Jota, João Félix and André Silva all on the score sheet.

It could have been a bigger win as Portugal hit the woodwork three times and had 27-5 shots including 11-2 on target.

Portugal produced another dominant 2-0 win in Sweden. The Swedes were reduced to 10 men on the stroke of halftime, Ronaldo scoring his 100th and 101st goals for his country.

Defenders Mário Rui and Domingos Duarte have been replaced by Nuno Sequeira and Rúben Semedo.

Midfielder André Gomes is replaced by William Carvalho who returns to the squad. 

Winger Rafa Silva is back in with Daniel Podence called up for the first time. Gonçalo Guedes misses out.

Cristiano Ronaldo has 165 caps and scored 101 international goals. He scored twice in Sweden and will be keen to break the all-time international goals record.

Spain Form

Spain qualified for the European Championship easily, finishing five points ahead of Sweden at the top of Group F. They won eight and drew two of their 10 qualifiers, crushing Malta 7-0 and Romania 5-0 in their final two matches.

La Roja began their UEFA Nations League campaign with a 1-1 draw against Germany in Stuttgart. Luis Enrique’s side were 1-0 down deep into added time before José Gaya’s late equaliser.

Spain responded with a 4-0 win against Ukraine. Sergio Ramos scored the opening two goals with young wingers Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres completing the rout. 

Spain had 70% possession, 25-4 shots including 10-2 on target in Madrid.

Midfielders Thiago and Óscar are out of the squad with Dani Ceballos, Sergio Canales and José Campaña coming in.

Winger Marco Asensio was not called up with Mikel Oyarzabal and Adama Traoré joining the squad.
