Coppa Italia Tips

The Coppa Italia is an annual Italian football cup competition. The Coppa Italia was first held in 1922 and was played sporadically until 1958 where it has been played every year since.

Currently known as the TIM Cup due to sponsorship reasons, the Coppa Italia is a knockout tournament with a total of eight rounds. The draw for the entire competition made before the first round and each tie is a single leg until the semi-finals which are played over two legs.

The first round begins in August between clubs outside the top two divisions in Italy. Serie B clubs join during the second round, with the 12 lowest-ranked Serie A teams starting in the third round.  The eight remaining Serie A teams don’t play until the fourth round in January.

The Coppa Italia final is contested in May in a single match held at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. Juventus are the most successful club with 13 Coppa Italia titles followed by Roma with 9 titles. The Old Lady are the defending champions after defeating AC Milan in the 2017-18 final.

The Coppa Italia champions automatically qualify for the UEFA Europa League group stage the following next season. If they already qualified for the Champions League or Europa League through their Serie A position, the next highest placed finisher in the Serie A qualifies for the Europa League.
