Serie B History

Serie B began in 1929 with 18 clubs and was divided between northern and southern Italy after World War II. The competition became a national championship again in 1948 and was mostly contested by 20 clubs.

Serie A split with Serie B in 2010 to form Lega Serie A. Serie B became Lega Serie B with various sponsorship deals changing the name of the competition.
