Salernitana earned three victories in the final five Serie B regular season rounds to get up to 16th place and avoid direct relegation.

The Garnets were beaten by Spezia 2-0 in early May, but bounced back instantly with a 2-0 home win over Mantova with Simy and Lorenzo Amatucci appearing on the scoresheet.

Next was a 1-0 loss to Sampdoria, but they wrapped up the regular season with a 2-0 road win at Cittadella, Ajdin Hrustic breaking the deadlock in the first half, Simy doubling the lead in the 75th minute.

Pasquale Marino’s side didn’t offer much besides 63% possession in the relegation playoffs first tie against Sampdoria, losing 2-0 in Genoa last weekend.

Thanks to their four-game unbeaten run in the final four rounds, Sampdoria moved up to 17th place in Serie B and avoided direct relegation.

They started the last month with back to back draws against Cremonese 0-0 and Catanzaro 2-2, followed by a 1-0 win against Salernitana, Melle Meulensteen scoring the only goal just before the break.

In the final round, Sampdoria locked horns against Juve Stabia on the road, had 1.43-0.91 expected goals, 47% possession and 13-12 shots, but the clash ended in a goalless draw.
