Kawasaki Frontale vs Urawa Reds Preview

Kawasaki Frontale did great in the AFC Champions League final tournament and picked up good form in J1 recently too. I am backing them to beat Urawa Reds on Wednesday.

Stats

  • Kawasaki Frontale have won their last 2 matches.
  • Kawasaki Frontale beat Urawa Reds 3-1 in their last home match.
  • Urawa Reds are winless in 11 of their last 12 away matches.

HTH

Kawasaki Frontale have a 21-18 advantage against Urawa Reds with 15 draws in 54 matches.

They last met in November, the game ending in a 1-1 draw.

Kawasaki Frontale Form

Kawasaki Frontale were expecting much more than 24 points from the opening 15 rounds in the new J1 League season, currently sitting in 6th place.

They had an amazing run in recently ended AFC Champions League final tournament, eliminating Al Sadd 3-2 and Al Nassr 3-2 to reach the grand finals where they lost to Al Ahli 2-0.

As for their domestic form, Shigetoshi Hasebe’s side started this month with a 2-1 road draw to Kashima Antlers, but bounced back with two straight victories against Yokohama 2-1 and most recently Cerezo Osaka 2-0.

Urawa Reds Form

Urawa Reds are are off to a decent start in the J1 League 2025, grabbing 29 points in 17 matches and sit in 4th place.

They have been struggling with consistency in the last couple of rounds though. After beating Tokyo Verdy 2-0 in early May, Reds lost at home to Gamba Osaka 1-0, followed by a 1-1 road draw at Albirex Niigata.

Maciej Skorza’s side returned to winning ways last weekend by beating table strugglers Tokyo 3-2, pulling a comeback in the last ten minutes, Taishi Matsumoto scoring a brace.

Team News

Defenders Jesiel and Shintaro Kurumaya are ruled out for this match, recovering from hamstring injuries. Striker Yu Kobayashi is also out with a joint dislocation.

Defensive midfielder Kai Shibato is the only name on Urawa’s injury list, recovering from a knee surgery.

Predicted Starting Lineups

Kawasaki Frontale: Yamaguchi, Van Wermeskerken, Takai, Maruyama, Sasaki, Kawahara, Yamamoto, Ienaga, Wakisaka, Marcinho, Erison

Urawa Reds: Nishikawa, Ishikara, Boza, Hoibraten, Ogiwara, Yasui, Gustafsson, Okubo, Watanabe, Savio, Matsuo
