Machida Zelvia vs Kyoto Sanga Predictions

Kyoto are in better form and look over-priced to avoid defeat on Wednesday.

An away win or draw is my best bet at Machida Gion Stadium.

Stats

  • Machida Zelvia failed to win 6 of their last 8 matches (J1L)
  • Machida Zelvia failed to win 5 of their last 6 home matches (J1L)
  • Kyoto Sanga are unbeaten in 5 of their last 7 away matches (J1L)
  • Kyoto Sanga are unbeaten in 7 of their last 10 matches (J1L)

Head to Head

Machida Zelvia and Kyoto Sanga will meet for the 17th time on Wednesday. Kyoto won eight of 16 previous encounters, while Machida claimed five victories.

Machida Zelvia Form

Machida Zelvia's dramatic dip in form continued on Saturday as Go Kuroda's men slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Kashima Antlers. Kyosuke Tagawa's first-half strike condemned Zelvia to a fourth defeat in five games played since mid-April.

A miserable run of form at Machida Gion Stadium has seen the hosts lost four and win just one of six previous J1L games in Tokyo.

After a promising start to the season, Zelvia now sit ninth in the division, eight points behind leaders Kashima Antlers.

Machida Zelvia Team News

Machida Zelvia boss Kuroda will consider making changes to his first XI after Saturday's setback against Kashima. Oh Se-Hun and Na Sang-Ho are among those who could earn a recall to the side on Wednesday.

Takumi Narasaka remains sidelined with a serious knee injury.

Kyoto Sanga Form

Kyoto Sanga make the trip to Tokyo after throwing away a two-goal lead in last weekend's J1L contest against Cerezo Osaka. Motohiko Nakajima's second-half strike ensured back-to-back league losses for the Purple Sanga for the first time since October 2024.

A strong run of form before their recent defeats saw Kyoto win six and lose just one of eight previous league fixtures.

Unbeaten in five of their last seven road games, Cho Kwi-Jae's side sit fourth in the J1L, four points ahead of Machida Zelvia.

Kyoto Sanga Team News

Kyoto boss Kwi-Jae will likely make one or two changes to his first XI this week. Brazilian midfielder João Pedro is tipped to earn a recall to the starting selection.

Goalkeeper Sung-Yun Gu remains sidelined.

Verdict

Machida Zelvia have endured a tough month and could struggle against a Kyoto side that has a strong away record.

I'm backing the visitors to at least avoid defeat on Wednesday.
