Yokohama F. Marinos vs Machida Zelvia Predictions

Goals should be expected in Saturday's J1 League contest.

BTTS is my top choice for what should prove an entertaining contest at Nissan Stadium.

  • Yokohama F. Marinos have seen BTTS in 10 of their last 11 matches
  • Yokohama F. Marinos have seen BTTS in 5 of their last 6 home matches
  • Machida Zelvia have seen BTTS in their last 5 matches
  • Machida Zelvia have seen BTTS in their last 2 away matches

Head to Head

Saturday's J1 League encounter will be the second meeting between these sides.

Machida Zelva claimed an impressive 4-1 win in their only previous meeting in the Emperor Cup last season.

Yokohama F Marinos Form

Yokohama F Marinos return to league business after squeezing past Gifu in the Emperor Cup on Wednesday. Kenta Inoue's stoppage-time goal rescued the tie for the Marinos before a penalty shootout victory secured a place in the third round.

Since their AFC Champions League final defeat, Harry Kewell's side have recorded one win, one draw, and one loss in their subsequent three matches.

The Marinos remain tough to beat on their own patch, with no defeats in any of their last nine games at Nissan Stadium.

Yokohama F Marinos Team News

Head coach Kewell is unable to call on suspended defender Eduardo this weekend. Brazilian forward Elber remains unavailable with a muscle injury.

Kenta Inoue is set to return to the first XI after his vital midweek strike.

Machida Zelvia Form

Machida Zelvia come into this weekend's J1 League contest keen to bounce back from a surprise Emperor Cup defeat on Wednesday. Tsukuba University were the unlikely winners as they claimed a penalty shootout success following a 1-1 draw at the Machida Gion Stadium.

Go Kuroda's men have gone off the boil in recent weeks. After winning six of seven games played in May, Zelvia have since failed to win three of their last four matches, including Wednesday's cup exit.

In their first-ever season in the Japanese top flight, Machida remain top of the division, some 15 points ahead of Yokohama, albeit having played two games more.

Machida Zelvia Team News

Machida Zelvia boss Kuroda could be without the services of up to four first-team players this weekend. Sang-ho Na, Min-kyu Jang, Mitchell Duke and Takuya Yasui are all tipped to remain sidelined for the visitors.

Verdict

Goals at both ends seem likely in Saturday's tough-to-call J1 League encounter.

BTTS is my only pick at the Nissan Stadium.
