Gimcheon Sangmu vs Gwangju Predictions

Gimcheon can claim the spoils against a Gwangju side that has struggled at this venue in past seasons.

A home win is my best bet in Sunday's KL 1 encounter.

Stats

  • Gimcheon Sangmu won 2 of their last 3 matches
  • Gimcheon Sangmu won 3 of their last 5 home matches (KL 1)
  • Gimcheon Sangmu won their last 5 home matches against Gwangju
  • Gwangju lost 4 of their last 5 matches against Gimcheon Sangmu
  • Gwangju lost 4 of their last 6 away matches (KL 1)

Head to Head

Gimcheon Sangmu and Gwangju have met on 25 previous occasions. Gimcheon hold the H2H advantage with 13 wins to Gwangju's 11.

Gimcheon Form

Gimcheon face their first home fixture of the season in high confidence after an impressive 3-1 win at Anyang last weekend. Three goals scored in a blistering 19-minute first-half spell secured the points for Chung Jung-Yong's side.

The Military Club have begun the new campaign in decent form, picking up seven points from four consecutive away fixtures, including a 3-2 win at Jeju United on the first day of the season.

Jung-Yong's men sit third in the KL1, three points behind early pacesetters Daejeon Hana Citizen.

Gimcheon Team News

Head coach Jung-Yong will likely make at least one change to his first XI. Choi Ye-Hoon is set to drop out after he was forced off just 28 minutes into the win at Anyang.

Won Ki-Jong and Cho Hyun-Taek are both in contention for a recall this weekend.

Gwangju Form

Gwangju come into Sunday's KL1 contest after a sensational turnaround in their Asian Champions League tie against Vissel Kobe. After a 2-0 reversal in the first leg, Lee Jung-Hyo's side secured their place in the quarter-finals with a 3-0 extra-time victory on Wednesday.

A solid, if unspectacular start to their KL1 campaign has seen Gwangju pick up five points from three games played (W1, D2).

Often inconsistent on their travels, GFC lost 11 and won only five of 19 away KL1 games played in the past 12 months. More recently, Gwangju failed to record victories in their six previous away league encounters (D2, L4).

Gwangju Team News

Head coach Jung-Hyo could make some changes to his side after a tough 120 minutes against Vissel Kobe on Wednesday. Park In-Hyeok and Bruno Oliveira could earn recalls should the hosts decide to freshen up their selection.

Je-Ho Yu remains sidelined with a knee injury.

Verdict

Gimcheon have begun the new season well, and they can claim victory in their first home game of the campaign.

I'm backing the hosts to pick up the points on Sunday.
