Jeju vs Ulsan Predictions

Ulsan should prove too strong for a Jeju side that frequently struggles in this fixture.

I'm backing the visitors to claim a much-needed win on Sunday.

  • Jeju lost 7 of their last 11 matches
  • Jeju lost 3 of their last 5 home matches
  • Ulsan won 4 of their last 5 matches against Jeju
  • Ulsan won 5 of their last 7 away matches against Jeju
  • Ulsan won 7 of their last 12 matches (K League 1)

Head to Head

Jeju and Ulsan have a long-running history which has seen them face each other on 78 occasions since the turn of the century. Ulsan have dominated recent encounters, scoring 11 wins while losing just one of 15 league contests over the past five years.

Jeju Form

Jeju return to K League 1 action after securing their place in the next round of the Korean Cup on Wednesday. Kim Hak-Beom's side needed a shoot-out to see off Daejeon Hana Citizen following a goalless draw in Daejeon.

Sitting eighth in the 12-team KL 1, Jeju suffered back-to-back defeats against Gangwon and Daegu in their last league runouts earlier this month.

The Yukong Elephants have been especially inconsistent on their own patch. Jeju won four but lost four of eight KL 1 home games this season.

Jeju Team News

Head coach Hak-Beom has a lengthy list of players unavailable this weekend. Ja-cheol Koo, Ju-gong Kim, Chae-min Lim, Young-jun Choi and Ju-hun Song are among seven injury absentees.

Suspended centre-back Jun-ho Hong also misses out for the home side.

Ulsan Hyundai Form

Ulsan extended their unbeaten run to five matches with a thrilling Korean Cup victory on Wednesday. The Tigers twice came from behind to share eight goals against Gyeongnam before a penalty shoot-out victory secured their place in the last eight.

Hong Myung-Bo's men's in-form side won seven and lost just two of their last 12 K League 1 contests.

Sitting at the top of the division, Ulsan were held to a 1-1 draw in their most recent road contest against Incheon.

Ulsan Hyundai Team News

Hong Myung-Bo must also contend with a significant number of injuries this weekend. Young-woo Seol, Ji-hyun Kim, See-young Jang, Sang-min Sim, Seok-ho Hwang, Gustav Ludwigson and Young-gwon Kim are all set to miss out.

Hungarian forward Martin Adam is on international duty at the European Championships.

Verdict

Ulsan are in superior form and boast an excellent recent record against Jeju.

An away win is my top choice for Sunday's KL 1 contest.
