Brest vs Strasbourg Predictions

Considering the contrasting directions these teams seem to be heading, a home win looks like the likeliest outcome on Thursday.

I´m backing Brest to make it three wins in a row against an out-of-form Strasbourg.

  • Brest have won both of their last 2 matches
  • Brest have won 8 of their last 12 home matches (Ligue 1)
  • Strasbourg have lost 4 of their last 7 matches
  • Strasbourg have lost 5 of their last 7 away matches (Ligue 1)

Head to Head

Thursday´s Ligue 1 contest will be the 16th match between these sides since the turn of the century. Strasbourg have won seven and lost three of those games.

Brest claimed a 1-0 win when these sides last met in Ligue 1 earlier this year after sharing the spoils in the reverse fixture earlier in the season.

Brest Form

Les Pirates scored three goals for the second successive Ligue 1 match with a comfortable 3-0 win against Clermont last weekend. Brest also picked up a 3-1 win at Montpellier seven days earlier.

Eric Roy´s side have been in solid form at the Stade Francis-Le Blé with three wins and just one defeat from six matches played. Only champions PSG, who edged to a 3-2 victory, have left Brittany with all three points this season.

Brest Team News

Brest boss Roy could name a settled selection after an excellent win against Clermont. Jordan Amavi is the only injury absentee for the home side as he continues his recovery from a calf injury.

Strasbourg Form

Strasbourg make the trip to Brittany winless in seven Ligue 1 encounters after a 2-1 defeat at Reims last Friday. Despite a late consolation penalty from Kevin Gameiro, Les Bleu et Blanc slipped to their sixth league defeat of the campaign.

Patrick Vieira´s side have now dropped down to 15th in Ligue 1, just a point outside the relegation play-off position.

Les Bleu et Blanc will certainly need to improve on the road if they want to avoid a relegation dogfight. Vieira´s men have lost four of six away matches this season.

Strasbourg Team News

Patrick Vieira will be forced into at least one change after Gerzino Nyamsi was withdrawn just 13 minutes into Strasbourg´s 2-1 defeat at Reims. The French midfielder joins Maxime Bastian and Karol Fila on the Les Bleu et Blanc sidelines.

Verdict

Brest should be capable of taking advantage of an out-of-form Strasbourg on Thursday.

While it might not be easy, I expect the home side to edge their way to a third successive Ligue 1 victory.
