Lille vs Strasbourg - The Great Danes set for revenge over visitors

Lille will look to bounce back from their defeat to champions Paris Saint-Germain when they host Strasbourg in a Ligue 1 clash at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy. They were beaten by the visitors in the Coup De La Ligue last month but can earn their revenge with a home win on Friday.

The Great Danes are coming off a 2-1 defeat away at champions Paris Saint-Germain in their previous Ligue 1 fixture. They went two goals down before Nicolas Pepe struck a consolation from the penalty spot three minutes into added time.

Despite the defeat, Christophe Galtier’s men are still one of the form teams in Ligue 1 having won six of their last eight matches. They are still third on the table following the result in Paris, level on 25 points with Montpellier.

Lille's fine campaign has been powered by the performances of wingers Pepe and Jonathan Bamba. Both men have scored a combined 15 goals already this season and will carry the attacking threat for the team on Friday.

Thierry Laurey’s men were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw at home by struggling Toulouse in their last league outing. They took the lead after the break through Lebo Mothiba but were pegged back midway through the second half to settle for a share of the spoils.

The visitors have been plagued by inconsistency this season having claimed four wins and five draws in their 12 matches so far. Three of their last five matches have also ended in stalemates, leaving them seventh on the table with 17 points.

Mothiba is Strasbourg's top scorer with six goals in nine matches this season. The striker is expected to start in attack alongside Nuno Da Costa who has also netted four times in 12 appearances for the club.

Lille and Strasbourg have faced each other 24 times in the past with the visitors holding the upper hand with 10 wins to eight. Laurey's men also have the edge in recent fixtures having emerged victorious four times in the last six meetings.

Both teams won their home fixture last season with Lille claiming a 2-1 victory at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy while Strasbourg triumphed 3-0 in the reverse clash at home. The hosts have already lost to their rivals this season having suffered a 2-0 defeat in the Coupe De La Ligue in October.

Lille will be banking on Pepe and Bamba to provide the spark in attack on Friday. Both men possess lots of pace and skill in the wide areas and will give the Strasbourg full backs plenty of problems.

The visitors also boast some quality of their own in attack, particularly with Mothiba and Da Costa. However, both men could struggle against the team with the third best defence in the league, led by Jose Fonte and Zeki Celik.

Lille have won all six of their home matches this season and will be favourites to make it seven victories on Friday. The hosts are expected to secure all three points in this one with Nicolas Pepe to continue his goalscoring form.
