Lyon vs Bordeaux - Les Gones to beat out of form visitors

Lyon will continue their pursuit of the Ligue 1 frontrunners when they host Bordeaux at the Groupama Stadium on Saturday. The home team are in the middle of a mini injury crisis but should still have too much quality for the visitors.

Les Gones claimed a 2-1 win away at Angers in their previous Ligue 1 fixture last Saturday. They laboured slightly in the clash but ultimately secured the win thanks to goals from Houssem Aouar and substitute Memphis Depay.

Bruno Genesio's team have been slightly inconsistent this season having claimed six wins in 11 matches so far. They are currently fourth in the standings with 20 points, five off second place Lille and 13 behind league leaders Paris Saint-Germain.

Lyon will continue to be without key players Nabil Fekir and Maxwel Cornet with both men still sidelined with injury. Aouar and Depay are likely to start after both men scored in the win over Angers.

Les Girondins are coming off a defeat in their previous outing as they were beaten 1-0 at home against Nice. Despite dominating possession and creating a number of goal-scoring opportunities, they failed to find the breakthrough.

Bordeaux's season appears to be unravelling at the moment as they have lost four of their last five matches in all competitions. They have dropped to eighth on the table with 14 points, six behind Saturday’s hosts.

Francois Kamano is the top-scorer for Eric Bedouet's team with seven goals in 11 matches so far. The striker is expected to start on Saturday although he has failed to score in his last two Ligue 1 matches.

Lyon and Bordeaux have faced each other 53 times with the hosts emerging victorious on 21 occasions while Les Girondins have won 13 matches. The visitors have the upper hand in recent meetings with three wins and two draws in the last six fixtures.

Both teams served up thrillers in their two fixtures last season with Bordeaux earning a 3-3 draw in Lyon before securing a 3-1 victory in the reverse fixture at home.

Despite key players currently sidelined, Lyon still have a formidable team. The front three of Aouar, Depay and Bertrand Traore have combined well this season and should have too much for Pablo and Jules Kounde.

Bordeaux are short of confidence having lost their last three matches. Top-scorer Kamano has also failed to score in his last three appearances for the club and is unlikely to get any joy against Marcelo and Jason Denayer.

Bordeaux have been abysmal lately and are unlikely to get anything from Lyon. The hosts may not keep a clean sheet but are expected to secure a comfortable win.
