Marseille vs Lens Predictions

All of Marseille’s Ligue 1 games in April had plenty of goals. Lens found the net in their last 10 matches across competitions, so BTTS is the best bet in France.

Head to Head

Lens have an 18-17 advantage against Marseille with 8 draws in 43 matches.

They last met in November 2023, the game being won by Lens 1-0.

Marseille Form

Marseille have been in terrible form recently in Ligue 1, winning just two points in their last five contests and dropped down to 8th position.

Jean-Louis Gasset’s side was held to a 2-2 draw at home last weekend by Nice, Jonathan Clauss scoring an equalizer in the first half, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang put Marseille ahead in the 56th minute. The final score was set by Nice's Melvin Bard 16 minutes later.

That was the second consecutive 2-2 draw for Marseille in Ligue 1, snatching a point at Toulouse with Faris Moumbagna scoring the equalizer in stoppage time.

The Phocaeans are having a great run in the Europa League where they will face Atalanta in the semi-finals after eliminating Benfica on penalties (2-2 on aggregate).

Marseille Injuries & Team News

Valentin Rongier, Bilal Nadir, Bamo Meite and Quentin Merlin are injured.

Faris Moumbagna is suspended.

Lens Form

After three defeats and a draw in Ligue 1, Lens have finally returned to winning ways last weekend at home against Clermont 1-0.

It was a well-deserved victory, having 1.82-0.65 expected goals, 49% possession and 17-8 shots, Florian Sotoca converting a penalty in the 3rd minute.

After wrapping up March with back to back defeats against Nice 3-1 and Lille 2-1, Franck Haise’s side also struggled in early April, failing to beat Le Havre at home 1-1 and then lost to Metz 2-1.

The Blood and Gold are currently sitting in 6th position on Ligue 1 table with 46 points from 30 matches, hoping to end the season in one of the European spots.

Lens Injuries & Team News

Midfielder Jimmy Cabot is recovering from a cruciate ligament injury.

Jonathan Gradit is suspended.

Verdict

Marseille’s last two contests in Ligue 1 have ended 2-2, while Lens have seen BTTS in four of their last five appearances. I am backing both sides to find the net at Velodrome on Sunday.
