Strasbourg vs Monaco Match Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

Monaco will attempt to get a grip on their unraveling season with new boss Thierry Henry when they travel to the Stade de la Meinau to face Strasbourg. Both teams enjoy open and expansive football and should serve up an exciting contest on Saturday.

RC Strasbourg

Thierry Laurey's team are coming off a thrilling 2-2 draw away at Angers in their previous Ligue 1 fixture. They raced into a two-goal lead before the break thanks to a Lebo Mothiba brace but were pegged back after some late pressure from the hosts.

Strasbourg are having a decent campaign in their second season in the topflight. They have claimed three wins and three draws from their opening nine matches and are currently ninth on the table with 12 points.

Mothiba and Nuno Da Costa have been pivotal to the hosts fine start to the campaign having scored four goals each already. Both men have struck up a great understanding in attack and are expected to start up front on Saturday.

The Monegasques continued their miserable form as they were beaten 2-1 at home by Rennes last time out. Colombian striker Radamel Falcao grabbed his team's only goal as they fell to their fourth consecutive defeat.

The Principality club's poor form has culminated in the sacking of manager Leonardo Jardim, who was relieved of his duties with the team sitting 18th on the table. Thierry Henry has been hired as new boss and the former striker will attempt to turn the team's fortunes around starting with this weekend's clash.

Monaco have received some good news on the injury front with the return of striker Stevan Jovetic. The Montenegro international played for 12 minutes against Rennes and could start in attack on Saturday alongside Falcao.

Head-to-Head

Strasbourg and Monaco have faced each other 26 times in the past with the visitors leading the head-to-head by 17 wins to four. The Monegasques have also won five of the last six meetings and did the double over Laurey's team last season.

Monaco claimed a 3-1 win on their last visit to the Stade de la Meinau with Jovetic and Rony Lopes both getting on the score sheet.

Match-Up

Mothiba and Da Costa have been the shining lights for Strasbourg this season with both men combining for eight goals. The dual threat of both strikers could prove too much to handle for Jemerson and Kamil Glik who have looked shaky at the back for Monaco this season.

Monaco are likely to have Jovetic and Falcao starting together for the first time in weeks. Both men linked up well at the start of the season and should give Stefan Mitrovic, Anthony Caci and Pablo Martinez plenty of problems.

Key Statistics

  • Strasbourg are unbeaten in 10 of their last 15 home matches (Ligue 1).
  • Strasbourg have conceded at least 1 goal in 8 of their last 10 home matches (Ligue 1).
  • Monaco are unbeaten in 11 of their last 15 away matches (Ligue 1).
  • Monaco have scored at least 1 goal in 9 of their last 10 away matches (Ligue 1).

Verdict

Goals should be expected in this fixture as both teams have decent quality in attack while also being slightly open defensively. Monaco have been poor recently but their record against Strasbourg means they can earn at least a draw on Saturday.
