New York Red Bulls vs Seattle Sounders Preview & Betting Tips

New York Red Bulls and Seattle Sounders face each other at the Red Bull Arena in New Jersey on Thursday. The hosts are looking to keep up their chase of the front-runners in Eastern Conference, while Seattle are hoping to turn around a run of poor results.

New York Red Bulls

New York were held to a 1-1 draw away at Columbus Crew last Saturday. Alex Muyl’s strike on 57 minutes was enough to cancel out Gyasi Zardes’ first half goal ensuring his side came away with a share of the spoils.

Prior to the draw at Columbus, the Red Bulls had claimed an impressive 4-0 victory over local rivals New York City FC. They are currently fourth in the Eastern Conference standings, six points off leaders Atlanta United.

Jesse Marsh’s team head into this clash in fine form having suffered just one defeat in five matches. They have claimed two wins in that run-including a victory over Atlanta and they have also kept two clean sheets.

Top scorer Bradley Wright-Phillips will continue to lead the line for New York as he looks to add to his nine goals this season. Muyl and Florian Valot are also expected to start, while Sean Davis and Vincent Bezecourt should both line up in midfield.

Seattle Sounders

The Sounders claimed a crucial 2-1 victory over DC United in their previous fixture last Sunday. They were made to come from behind with goals from Nicolas Lodeiro and Magnus Eikrem cancelling out DC’s opener.

That result ended a run of four straight defeats for Seattle, but still leaves them 10th in the Western Conference, just two points off the bottom of the table. They are also one of the lowest scorers in the league this season, having netted just nine times so far.

Will Bruin will continue as the lone man up front, with Victor Rodriguez and Clint Dempsey providing Support. Nicolas Lodeiro should start in midfield, while Kelvin Leerdam and Chad Marshall are expected to line up in defence.

The home team usually wins this clash, with each of the last four meetings between both teams going to the hosts. The last meeting between the two teams in New York ended 2-0 in favour of the Red Bulls.

Seattle have struggled for form in their recent outings having lost four of their last five matches. They do not score enough, and they could struggle against the quality in the New York team with the likes of Wright-Phillips, Muyl and Valot.
