Mauricio Pochettino favourite to be next Premier League manager to leave his job after Champions League humiliation
Spurs' European pummeling piles pressure on Pochettino
Tottenham Hotspur suffered a humiliating 7-2 UEFA Champions League defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich in London to pile the pressure on under fire manager Mauricio Pochettino. After seemingly doing no wrong since taking charge and leading Spurs to the Champions League final last season, it's all unraveling at lightning speed.
Bookmakers 888sport have slashed the odds with Mauricio Pochettino favourite to be next EPL manager to lose his job. Pochettino is priced at 7/4 to be the next Premier League manager to lose his job after the drubbing at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Before last night’s 7-2 defeat to Bayern Munich, Pochettino was a fourth-favourite at 9/2 in the sack race. But the margin of defeat and claiming the unwanted record for the biggest defeat for any English team at home in European competition has seen Spurs plunged into crisis.
Pochettino has jumped ahead of Marco Silva, Steve Bruce and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the online bookmaker’s favourite to next leave his job. It has been a largely successful five years at the club but there a growing sense that things are going stale with the team and unrest in his previously tight squad.
Next Premier League manager to leave their job betting odds
Mauricio Pochettino leads Everton's Marco Silva, Newcastle United's Steve Bruce and Manchester United's Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Odds taken from 888sport and correct on 2 October 2019:
Manager | Odds |
---|---|
Mauricio Pochettino | 7/4 |
Marco Silva | 11/4 |
Steve Bruce | 9/2 |
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer | 7/1 |
Quique Sanchez Flores | 12/1 |
Nuno Espirito Santo | 16/1 |
Dean Smith | 16/1 |
Ralph Hasenhuttl | 18/1 |
Graham Potter | 18/1 |
Pochettino has long been linked with the Real Madrid and Manchester United jobs, and with both of their managers under pressure Pochettino could jump ship.
An 888sport spokesman said: “When Mauricio Pochettino guided Tottenham to the Champions League final in June, few would have predicted him being in so much trouble just a few months later.
“Last night’s humiliation against Bayern has heaped the pressure on after a slow start to the season - and we now make Poch the favourite to be given the push from Spurs.”
