Next Crystal Palace Manager Odds – Michael Carrick favourite to replace sacked Patrick Vieira

Palace sacked Patrick Vieira with “enormous regret” on Friday morning, ending his reign at Selhurst Park after two years.

He led the club to a 12th place finish in the Premier League and an FA Cup semi-final appearance last season, but a run of one win in 13 games cost him his job.

The bookies have wasted no time in pricing up his replacement, and current Boro boss Carrick is the early front-runner at 4/1 with Coral. 

Rafael Benitez is 6/1 to make the Croydon club his next Premier League employers, while ex-Southampton chief Ralph Hassenhuttl is 7/1 to take the reins at Selhurst Park.

“This will have come as a bit of a surprise this morning, the sacking of Patrick Vieira,” Coral’s Lewis Knowles told FreeTips.com.

“But Crystal Palace are without a win since New Year’s Eve, and although Vieira’s style of football had many admirers, results had simply not been good enough in recent months.

“Michael Carrick has done an incredible job to turn Middlesbrough into promotion challengers in the Championship, so it’s no surprise to see him heading the betting.

“I’m sure names such as Rafa Benitez and Marcelo Bielsa jump off the list to Palace fans, but whether they can attract a manager of that pedigree remains to be seen.”
