Rio Ave vs Aves Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

Rio Ave host Aves at the Estádio do Rio Ave looking for their first win in the Primeira Liga. The hosts were unlucky last week but they can atone at handy odds against a road weary Aves side.

Rio Ave FC Form & Team News

Rio Ave started the season with a 6-1 win over Oliveirense in the Portuguese League Cup. Nuno Santos (2), Filipe Augusto, Diego Lopes, Mehdi Taremi and Tarantini scored the goals with Augusto adding two assists.

The first Primeira Liga match resulted in a 1-0 defeat at Famalicao. Nelson Monte hit the woodwork and Messias was sent off before Famalicao took the lead, Filipe Augusto missing the chance to equalise from the penalty spot in added time.

New manager Carlos Carvalhal replaced Daniel Ramos in July and has seen a big turnaround in players. Centre-back Aderllan Santos was signed on loan, winger Carlos Mané and striker Mehdi Taremi brought in permanently to boost the squad.

Santos could start against Aves with Messias suspended, Mané is likely to remain on the bench but Taremi must be close to starting ahead of Bruno Moreira. The Vila do Conde club are well placed to improve on their seventh place last season.

Rio Ave can be backed at 1.90 and I think there is enough value there to warrant a play on the hosts.

Desportivo Aves Form & Team News

Desportivo Aves survived the drop last season despite losing their last three matches. Manager Augusto Inácio took over in January and did enough to keep the club up.

Aves were defeated 3-2 at Gil Vicente in the League Cup and lost their first Primeira Liga match 2-1 at Boavista. Welinton Junior and Peu scored against Gil Vicente and Junior assisted Mehrdad Mohammadi against Boavista.

Both players were on target in the 3-1 home win against Maritimo. Rúben Macedo opened the scoring, all three players are new signings and be will important players against Rio Ave. New centre-backs Adi Mehremic and Adam Dzwigala continue to build their partnership at the back.

Aves have almost been completely rebuilt with some clever business in the transfer market. Bookmakers are offering odds of 4.33 for Aves to beat Rio Ave and 3.25 to claim a draw which could be popular picks.

Rio Ave vs Aves Head to Head

Desportivo Aves have a good record in this fixture, holding a 8-4 advantage with three draws. Aves have won their last three matches against Rio Ave, including a 2-1 home win and 2-0 away win in the Primeira Liga last season with Rodrigo scoring a goal in each match.

Rio Ave vs Aves Match Up

Rio Ave were unlucky last time out, having a man sent off and missing a late penalty. Carlos Carvalhal should get this side back into the UEFA Europa League once they get used to his methods.

Aves are also going through a transition, manager Augusto Inácio in charge since January and integrating a stack of new players. They have the potential to finish in the top half but this match could be a step too soon.

Rio Ave vs Aves Key Statistics

  • Rio Ave have won 5 of their last 8 competitive matches in all competitions.

Verdict

Rio Ave can atone for last week’s unlucky defeat by responding at home. Aves have potential but the visitors have been poor on the road and might do their best work in Vila das Aves.
