Rio Ave vs Vitoria Guimaraes Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

Rio Ave host Vitoria de Guimaraes at the Estádio do Rio Ave where they have scored 11 goals in their last two matches. Guimaraes have important players missing and have lost five of their last six away matches in the Primeira Liga. I am backing Rio Ave at 1.85 which represents value on the hosts.

Rio Ave FC Form & Team News

Rio Ave are coming off a 3-2 win at Sporting CP which was a great result for the Vila do Conde side. Two penalties to Filipe Augusto and one spot kick to Ronan secured victory in Lisbon which followed a thumping 5-1 home win against Aves.

New manager Carlos Carvalhal replaced Daniel Ramos in July and has quickly decided on his first choice starting side. Winger Nuno Santos is a threat and central midfielder Filipe Augusto has scored four goals with three assists in four matches this season.

Rio Ave have no major injuries and can be backed at 1.85 to win. I think there is enough value there to warrant a bet on the hosts.

Vitoria de Guimaraes SC Form & Team News

Vitoria de Guimaraes suffered a 3-0 defeat at Porto in their previous Primeria Liga match. It didn’t help that central defender Edmond Tapsoba was sent off in the 1st minute and Davidson was sent off in the 78th minute with the score tied 1-1.

Manager Ivo Vieira has had to juggle a hectic schedule with his side getting through six UEFA Europa League matches to reach the group stage. Guimaraes finished fifth in the Portuguese Primeria Liga last season and are attempting to stay in touch with the elite teams in Portugal.

Edmond Tapsoba and Davidson are both suspended here which is a blow to Vieira’s side. Pedro Henrique should partner Valerii Bondarenko in central defence while Léo Bonatini, Alexandre Guedes and André Pereira fight for a spot up front.

Guimaraes have a crisis in central midfield with Joseph Amoah, Alhassan Wakaso, André André and Mikel Agu all injured. Al Musrati and Denis Will Poha are likely to continue in the middle of the park.

Vitoria Guimaraes are outsiders here at 4.20 and bookmakers have them priced at 3.50 to claim a draw. If you fancy Guimaraes to avoid defeat they can be backed at 1.83 in the double chance market.

Rio Ave vs Vitoria Guimaraes Head to Head

Vitoria Guimaraes have a 23-11 advantage over Rio Ave with 10 draws in 44 encounters. Both teams won their home games in the Primeira Liga last season , Rio Ave winning 3-2 and Vitoria winning 2-1 in Guimaraes.

Rio Ave vs Vitoria Guimaraes Match Up

Vitoria Guimaraes are missing the influential Davidson through suspension and are without four injured central midfielders. I believe that’s enough to swing the match in Rio Ave’s favour.

Rio Ave vs Vitoria Guimaraes Key Statistics

  • Rio Ave have won 3 of their last 4 competitive matches in all competitions.
  • Rio Ave have scored 5+ goals in their last 2 home matches in all competitions.
  • Rio Ave have scored 2+ goals in 8 of their last 9 matches (Primeira Liga).
  • Vitoria Guimaraes have lost 5 of their last 6 away matches in the Primeira Liga.

Rio Ave are in great form and at full strength. Vitoria Guimaraes have injuries and suspensions to contend which means I am backing the hosts here.

Post bet analysis

Rio Ave centra back Toni Borevkovic was sent off in the 57th minute with the match tied at 1-1 which was the final score. Unfortunate for Rio Ave who are still a team to watch this season.
