Dundee extended their perfect start to their Scottish League Cup campaign with a 2-0 away win against Montrose on Tuesday.

The result followed back-to-back wins against Bora Rangers (4-0) and Ross County (3-0). The Dee sit top of Group C on nine points and a win against Forfar will see them progress to the knockout stages.

Dundee dominated against Montrose with 23 shots and 58% possession. James McPake’s side hit the woodwork three times as they regularly carved open Montrose’s defence.

They eventually sealed the tie with two quickfire goals from Jason Cummings and Luke McCowan with 20 minutes remaining.

The win extended Dundee’s unbeaten run to eight matches. They have won seven of these matches and their only recent draw was a 2-2 stalemate against West Ham.

With a fully fit squad, McPake named an unchanged starting XI against Montrose.

New signing Ian Lawlor (goalkeeper) made the bench, the only change to the squad.

Strikers Jason Cummings and Luke McCowan could be recalled the starting XI after coming off the bench to score against Montrose.

Forfar Form

Forfar secured a top-two finish in Group C with a narrow 1-0 victory against Bora Rangers last time out. If they avoid defeat against Dundee, Forfar will qualify for the last 16 of the Scottish Cup.

The Loons created few chances in the match and had eight shots and 51% possession. They struggled to break down Bora, but midfielder Mark Gallagher broke the deadlock on 80 minutes, earning his side a vital three points.

Forfar were given a 3-0 win in their opening match against Ross County after County squad members tested positive for COVID-19. They also earned a bonus point following a goalless draw and a 5-4 penalty win against Montrose.

Gary Irvine’s side have been hard to beat, losing two of their last seven in all competitions. Away form has been an issue as they are winless in 10 of their last 15 on the road.
