Hearts look hard to beat on current form and their defence is difficult to break down. They should record a win against an Inverness side struggling for form.

Hearts qualified for the last 16 of the Scottish League Cup following a 2-0 win against Stirling Albion on Tuesday.

Robbie Neilson’s side have won all three of their group A fixtures, defeating Peterhead 2-0 and Cove Rangers 3-0.

Hearts were in complete control and had 58% possession and 14 shots against Stirling. Goals either side of halftime from Liam Boyce and Finlay Pollock secured a comfortable win.

Neilson’s side are unbeaten in nine of their last 10 in all competitions. They have kept nine clean sheets and have conceded just two goals in this run.

Hearts Injuries & Team News

Hearts are expected to make some changes against Inverness but Neilson will stick with his preferred 3-4-3 formation.

Forwards Armand Gnanduillet and Finlay Pollock could start after impressive substitute appearances against Stirling.

Inverness Form

Inverness must win against Hearts to keep their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages alive. The Caley Jags are five points off Hearts and can only qualify as one of the best ranked second-place teams.

Billy Dodds’ side are winless in their last two League Cup matches. They lost on penalties against Stirling Albion following a 2-2 draw in 90 minutes. A disappointing 3-1 defeat to Cove Rangers followed on Tuesday.

Inverness started poorly against Cove and were on the back foot in the first half, conceding two goals. The Caley Jags improved in the second half and had several attempts on goal but only hit the target twice.

Cove scored a third late on before Manny Duku netted a consolation goal for Inverness in injury time.

The result leaves Inverness winless in six of their last eight Scottish League Cup matches. Their away form has also been poor, losing three of their last five and failing to keep a clean sheet in eight of their last nine on the road.

Inverness Injuries & Team News

Captain and midfielder Sean Welsh is ruled out with an ankle injury.

Scott Allardyce replaced Welsh in midfield. He is expected to keep his place in Dodds’ preferred 4-4-1-1 formation.
