Celtic vs St Johnstone Predictions

Celtic should be able to maintain their high-scoring record against St Johnstone this weekend.

I'm backing the Hoops to score three goals or more in a comfortable home victory.

  • Celtic have scored 3+ goals in 3 of their last 4 matches
  • Celtic have scored 3+ goals in 5 of their last 6 wins against St Johnstone
  • St Johnstone have conceded 23 goals in their last 7 matches against Celtic

Head to Head

Celtic maintained their recent dominance against St Johnstone with a 3-1 win in Perth in their last contest in December. The Hoops have won 19 and drawn two of their 21 previous encounters since 2018. The Saints have not beaten Celtic since 2016.

Celtic Form

Celtic booked their place in the Scottish Cup semi-finals with a less-than-assured 4-2 win against Premiership strugglers Livingston last weekend. Late goals from Daizen Maeda and Kyogo Furuhashi secured a hard-fought victory for Brendan Rogers's Bhoys.

At Parkhead, the Hoops have won five and drawn one of six games since a shock 2-0 defeat against Hearts in December. Celtic claimed a convincing 7-1 win against Dundee in their last Premiership contest in Glasgow.

The Scottish Champions are unbeaten in 57 of their last 58 home matches since January 2021.

Celtic Team News

Celtic boss Rodgers has no new injury issues ahead of Saturday's Premiership encounter. Hyunjun Yang is available again after completing a suspension in last weekend's Scottish Cup win against Livingston.

Captain Callum McGregor is ruled out, and he joins Maik Nawrocki, Reo Hatate, and James McCarthy on the sidelines.

St Johnstone Form

St Johnstone come into Saturday's Premiership encounter unbeaten in two league games after a 1-1 draw with bottom-of-the-table Livingston a fortnight ago. The Saints broke a four-game losing run with a surprise 2-0 win at Aberdeen three days prior to their share of the spoils against Livi.

Away from home, Craig Levein's side have managed to win two of their last four Premiership matches. The Saints had failed to win 11 successive road games before wins at Ross County and the aforementioned Aberdeen last month.

Now ninth in the Premiership, St Johnstone sit only four points clear of the relegation play-off position.

St Johnstone Team News

Craig Levein could name an unchanged St Johnstone XI, with the visitors reporting no new injury issues ahead of their trip to Glasgow.

Drey Wright, Ross Sinclair, and Cammy MacPherson remain injury absentees.

Verdict

Celtic should maintain their winning form at Parkhead with another comfortable victory against a poor St Johnstone side.

I'm backing Celtic to score at least three goals in a routine home win.
