Motherwell vs Celtic Predictions

An out-of-sorts Celtic could face a tricky test at Fir Park on Sunday.

While I expect the Hoops to claim the points, I'm putting my money on BTTS and over 2.5 goals scored this weekend.

  • Motherwell have seen BTTS in 9 of their last 11 home matches
  • Motherwell have seen over 2.5 goals in 8 of their last 11 home matches
  • Motherwell have seen BTTS in 5 of their last 6 matches against Celtic
  • Celtic have seen over 2.5 goals in 7 of their last 8 away matches against Motherwell
  • Celtic have seen BTTS in their last 3 matches
  • Celtic have seen BTTS in 4 of their last 6 away matches

Head to Head

Sunday's Premiership clash between Motherwell and Celtic will mark the 88th meeting between these sides since the turn of the millennium. Celtic boast a dominant historical advantage with 67 wins compared to just seven victories for Motherwell. The Hoops edged to a 2-1 success in their last meeting at Fir Park.

Motherwell Form

Motherwell return to Fir Park for their first home fixture since a 5-0 win against Ross County nearly three weeks ago. The Steelmen have since lost two of three successive away fixtures, including a 2-0 defeat at Hearts last weekend.

Stuart Kettlewell's side have been in decent form on home soil. Motherwell have won two and lost only one of their last six in Lanarkshire.

Motherwell Team News

Kettlewell has no new injury issues and is unlikely to make dramatic alterations after last weekend's defeat in Edinburgh. Andy Halliday could come back into the hosts midfield should the veteran pass a late fitness test.

Celtic Form

Celtic make the trip to Fir Park after losing their spot at the top of the Premiership following a 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock last weekend. David Watson's dramatic injury-time goal rescued a point for the Ayrshire side.

Now two points behind Rangers in the race for the title, the Hoops remain unbeaten in their last ten league contests over the past two months.

Brendan Rodgers's side have struggled for clean sheets, with only four kept in their last ten away league contests.

Celtic Team News

Head coach Rodgers has been dealt a blow with the loss of Canadian defender Alistair Johnston, who has a serious head injury. Tony Ralston will deputise in the Celtic defence.

Japanese international midfielder Reo Hatate also remains sidelined with a calf complaint.

Verdict

Goals can usually be expected when Celtic face Motherwell at Fir Park.

Over 2.5 goals is a solid choice, while I also fancy both teams to find the net on Sunday.
