Rangers vs Celtic Predictions

A competitive contest should see Celtic again emerge victorious in Glasgow.

I'm banking on BTTS and the Hoops to score at least twice at Ibrox.

Stats

  • Rangers have seen BTTS in 4 of their last 5 matches
  • Rangers have conceded 2+ goals in 3 of their last 4 matches
  • Celtic have seen BTTS in 4 of their last 6 matches against Rangers
  • Celtic have scored 2+ goals in 25 of their last 27 matches (Premiership)
  • Celtic have scored 2+ goals in 5 of their last 6 matches against Rangers

Head to Head

Rangers and Celtic have faced each other 443 times in major competitions. Celtic hold a slight edge with 170 wins, while Rangers secured 169 victories.

The Hoops edged ahead in the all-time H2H record after a penalty shootout victory in the final of the League Cup following a 3-3 draw at Hampden earlier this month.

Rangers Form

Rangers return to Ibrox after a disastrous week saw them drop five points in successive Premiership matches against St Mirren and Motherwell. After slumping to a 2-1 defeat at the SMISA Stadium, Phillipe Clement's beleaguered side could only pick up a point in a 2-2 draw at Motherwell on Boxing Day.

Now 14 points behind Celtic in the “race” for the Premiership title, the Gers have failed to win four of their last five matches across all competitions.

Despite recent disappointments, the Gers are usually tough to beat at Ibrox. Clement's men are unbeaten in 12 of their last 13 matches played in Govan, including a 1-1 draw against Tottenham in December.

Rangers Team News

Rangers boss Clement has no fresh injury issues but remains unable to call on injured trio Tom Lawrence, Neraysho Kasanwirjo and John Souttar.

Hamza Igamane is set to return to the first XI after netting twice as a second-half substitute in the 2-2 draw at Motherwell last week.

Celtic Form

Celtic make the short trip to Ibrox in fine form after another comfortable Premiership victory on Boxing Day. Daizen Maeda was again among the goals as the Hoops eased to a comfortable 4-0 win against St Johnstone at Parkhead.

Brendan Rodgers's imperious side are now unbeaten in 27 Premiership matches played since a 2-0 defeat at Hearts last March. The Hoops won 24 of those 27 league contests.

The Scottish champions boast an impressive road record which has seen them score two goals or more in 14 of 18 previous away Premiership matches.

Celtic Team News

Head coach Rodgers has a near-fully fit squad to choose from on Thursday. James Forrest and Odin Thiago Holm are the only expected absentees for the Scottish champions.

Kyogo Furuhashi is expected to spearhead the Celtic attack alongside fellow Japanese international Daizen Maeda and German winger Nicolas Kuhn.

Verdict

Celtic should have too much quality for an inconsistent Gers side on Thursday.

I expect the visitors to score at least two goals in a match where both teams are expected to get on the scoresheet.
