Rangers vs Livingston Predictions

Rangers will want to maintain their unbeaten record and get their title defence off to a winning start. They should record an opening day win against a Livingston side who lose frequently at Ibrox.

I am tipping Rangers to cover a -1 handicap and win to nil.

  • Rangers have won 33 of their last 39 matches (Scottish Premiership)
  • Rangers have won to nil in 7 of their last 10 home matches (Scottish Premiership)
  • Rangers have covered a -1 handicap in 4 of their last 5 home matches (Scottish Premiership)
  • Rangers have scored 2+ goals in their last 5 home matches (Scottish Premiership)
  • Rangers have won to nil in 6 of their last 7 matches against Livingston (all competitions)
  • Livingston have lost 3 of their last 4 away matches (Scottish Premiership)

Head-to-Head

Rangers have a 19-2 advantage against Livingston in 26 meetings with five draws.

The Gers beat Livingston 3-0 in the most recent meeting. James Tavernier, Ryan Kent and Ianis Hagi all scored in a one-sided encounter.

Rangers Form

Rangers had an up and down pre-season. A 1-0 win against Partick Thistle came before a disappointing 1-0 loss to Tranmere Rovers and back-to-back draws with Arsenal and Brighton.

Steven Gerrard’s side capped their early-season preparations with a 2-1 win against Real Madrid at Ibrox on Sunday.

The Gers made a slow start against Los Blancos and conceded on eight minutes. Steven Gerrard’s side went on to control the match and created chances with 21 shots. Second-half goals from Fashion Sakala and Cedric Itten secured the win.

The result leaves the Gers with just one loss in their last 33 at Ibrox, a 2-0 defeat to Slavia Prague in the Europa League last season.

Gerrard’s side went the entire 2020/21 season unbeaten in the Premiership. They won 32, drew six and lifted their first league title since 2011.

Rangers Injuries & Team News

Midfielders Joe Aribo and Kemar Roofe could return after missing the Real Madrid friendly through injury.

Winger Brandon Barker is unlikely to feature due to injury.

Cedric Itten is set to start upfront in Gerrard’s 4-3-3 formation after scoring against Real Madrid and Arsenal.

Livingston Form

Livingston have been in good early season form. The Lions recorded four wins from six in their pre-season friendlies and League Cup ties, including three consecutive wins to nil against East Stirling, Arbroath and Brechin.

Livi comfortably beat Cowdenbeath 3-1 last time out, despite going a goal down on eight minutes. They dominated possession with 63% and took their chances, scoring from just 10 shots.

A Jamie Todd own goal, a second from Bruce Anderson and a Craig Sibbald late strike earned a comprehensive win for David Martindale’s side.

Livingston had a poor end to their 2020/21 Scottish Premiership campaign. Livi had just one win in their final 12 fixtures last season, but strong early season form was enough to secure a mid-table finish.

Livingston Injuries & Team News

New signing Andrew Shinnie is the only injury doubt. The Midfielder was taken off in the first half against Cowdenbeath after a knock.

Midfielder Jaze Kabia could replace Shinnie in the wide right positions in Martindale’s preferred 4-3-3 formation.

Verdict

Rangers should extend their unbeaten record with few problems against Livingston. Livi have never won at Ibrox and they face a tough test against the reigning champions.

I am tipping Rangers to cover a -1 handicap and win to nil.
