Rangers vs St Mirren Predictions

After a poor performance in the Europa League, I expect Rangers to bounce back on Sunday.

Given their dominance in this fixture over the past few years, I´m backing a home win with over 2.5 goals scored. Rangers top scorer James Tavernier offers the value in the anytime scorer market.

  • Rangers have won 11 of their last 14 home matches (Premiership)
  • Rangers have seen over 2.5 goals in 7 of their last 10 home victories (Premiership)
  • Rangers have seen over 2.5 goals in 4 of their last 5 home wins against St. Mirren
  • Rangers´s James Tavernier has scored 3 goals in his last 5 appearances against St.Mirren
  • St Mirren have lost 9 of their last 10 matches against Rangers
  • St Mirren have lost 4 of their last 5 away matches
  • St Mirren have seen over 2.5 goals in 3 of their last 4 away defeats

Head to Head

As you might expect, Rangers have a dominant record against St.Mirren both recently and in years gone by. The Gers have won 15 and lost just one of their last 17 matches since 2017.

At Ibrox, St Mirren have lost their last 12 games since a 1-1 draw back in 2011. The Saints have not won in Glasgow since 1991.

Rangers Form

Rangers come into Sunday's Premiership contest now winless in their last two matches. After a hard-fought draw at Aberdeen last weekend, the Bears were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw against Cypriots Aris in the Europa League on Thursday.

Despite last weekend's stumble at Pittodrie, the Gers remain second in the Premiership, still eight points behind champions Celtic, but with a game in hand.

In their last league outing at Ibrox, Rangers needed two injury-time goals to secure three massive points against Hearts.

Rangers Team News

Rangers boss Phillipe Clement has no fresh injury issues after Thursday's Europa League draw.

Ross McCausland seems certain to start after his vital equaliser against the Cypriots. Todd Cantwell will drop out after being removed just 35 minutes into the midweek draw at Ibrox.

International midfield duo Nico Raskin and Ryan Jack are both likely to remain on the Gers treatment table.

St Mirren Form

St Mirren make the short trip to Glasgow on a downward spiral with three losses and just one win in their last five matches. Despite their recent dip, the Buddies remain third in the Premiership, six points behind Rangers.

Stephen Robinson´s side have struggled away from home in the past month. The Saints have lost their last three road matches, including a 4-0 hammering at Dundee.

St Mirren Team News

Buddies boss Robinson has no new injury concerns after St Mirren´s 1-0 reversal at Ross County last weekend. Richard Taylor remains the only injury absentee for the away side.

Kenyan winger Jonah Ayunga is available again and could return to the first XI after appearing as a second-half substitute in Dingwall.

Verdict

St.Mirren are likely to struggle at Ibrox this weekend with the visitors in poor away form. I'm taking Rangers to win with over 2.5 goals while James Tavernier is tipped to add to his impressive goal haul.
