St Johnstone and Aberdeen take part in a midweek Scottish Premiership match on Thursday. The Dons are recovering after eight players broke lockdown rules, can they overcome their off field issues at McDiarmid Park?

St Johnstone Form

St Johnstone drew 1-1 at Dundee United in their first match of the season. It was a gutsy effort after conceding early and winger Michael O'Halloran getting sent off.

Callum Davidson’s side were no match for Rangers at Ibrox, going down 3-0 after having 25% possession and 4-15 shots. Saints were 1-0 down at Kilmarnock in their last match but rallied to win 2-1.

St Johnstone were given some assistance when Killie were reduced to 10 men. David Wotherspoon equalised in the 85th minute and Michael O'Halloran scored the winner in added time.

St Johnstone Team News

Goalkeeper Zander Clark and midfielder Murray Davidson are close to returning alongside strikers Chris Kane and Stevie May.

Aberdeen Form

Aberdeen were in fourth spot when the 2019-20 Scottish Premiership season was halted. Derek McInnes’ side had reached the Scottish Cup semi-finals and won 3-1 against Hibernian.

The Dons got the new season off to a 1-0 home home defeat to Rangers on 1 August. They managed 40% possession and 4-15 shots, left-back Andrew Considine sent off with minutes remaining.

Aberdeen have had three Scottish Premiership matches postponed after eight players broke lockdown rules. Those players have been charged by the Scottish FA with potential punishments ranging from two to eight-game bans.

Aberdeen Team News

Aberdeen centre-back Michael Devlin is out with a hamstring injury and left-back Andrew Considine is suspended. Striker Sam Cosgrove is out until October with a knee injury.

19-year-old striker Ryan Edmondson is out for up to four months after suffering an ankle injury in training.

Aberdeen have "severely reprimanded and fined heavily" Bruce Anderson, Craig Bryson, Sam Cosgrove, Michael Devlin, Jonny Hayes, Matty Kennedy, Dylan McGeouch and Scott McKenna.

Aberdeen have signed Rangers midfielder Ross McCrorie on loan before a three-year deal. The 22-year-old can also play in central defence and is in search of regular game time.

St Johnstone vs Aberdeen Match Up

St Johnstone needed help at Kilmarnock but will gladly take their first win of the season. The Saints should improve in the coming weeks as they get injured players back and new manager Callum Davidson gets his ideas implemented.

Sam Cosgrove’s absence is a big loss for the Dons. The off field distractions can’t have helped their preparation and they could be behind other teams in terms of fitness.

Manager Derek McInnes has a tough job managing what could be mass suspensions.
