St Johnstone vs Celtic Predictions

After midweek disappointments, I´m backing Celtic to regain their winning touch at McDiarmid Park. An away win with Saints to score is expected on Sunday.

  • St Johnstone have seen BTTS in their last 4 home matches against Celtic
  • St Johnstone have lost their last 13 home matches against Celtic
  • Celtic have seen over 2.5 goals in their last 5 wins against St Johnstone
  • Celtic scored 20 goals in their last 5 wins against St Johnstone
  • Celtic have won 12 of their last 15 away matches (Premiership)
  • Celtic have seen over 2.5 goals in 8 of their last 11 away victories

Head to Head

Celtic have an impressively dominant record in matches against St Johnstone. The Hoops have won 18 and drawn two of their last 20 matches since 2018.

At McDiarmid Park, Celtic have won 13 successive matches since 2016, although St Johnstone did manage to score in their last four meetings in Perth.

St Johnstone Form

St Johnstone have begun to pick up some form after a miserable start to their Premiership campaign.

Now under the charge of former Scotland boss Craig Levein, the Saints have won two and lost just one of their last four league matches. They had failed to win any of their first nine Premiership fixtures this season.

On home soil, St Johnstone are unbeaten in their last four outings since a 2-0 loss to Rangers in September.

St Johnstone Team News

Saints boss Levein has a few injury issues with James Brown, Graham Carey and Nicky Clark all set to remain absent for the hosts. Andy Considine could drop out, with Tony Gallacher poised for a return to the St Johnstone defence.

Celtic Form

Celtic arrive in Perth having suffered yet another away defeat in the Champions League on Tuesday. A 2-0 loss against Lazio confirmed a bottom-place finish in Group E and with it, an early exit from European competition.

Brendan Rodgers´s side now return to domestic duty after dropping points in their last home match against Motherwell. On the road, Celtic remain near-untouchable domestically with just two defeats in their last 22 away Premiership matches (W18, D2, L2).

Celtic Team News

Rodgers has no further injury issues after Celtic´s midweek defeat in Rome. Luis Palma should return to the first XI after completing a Champions League suspension on Tuesday.

On the injury front, the Hoops must cope without influential Japanese midfielder Reo Hatate and Israeli winger Liel Abada.

Verdict

Celtic have a dominant record against St Johnstone and should ease past the home side on Sunday. I´m backing an away win with over 2.5 goals and BTTS.
