Serbian SuperLiga Format
The 16 teams in the Serbian SuperLiga play each other twice home and away in the regular season. After 30 regular season matches the top eight placed teams compete in the championship round and the eight lowest placed teams play in the relegation playoff round.
The two bottom placed teams are relegated to the second division, the Serbian Prva Liga. The third lowest-placed team contests a relegation playoff against the third-placed team in the second division.
The Serbian SuperLiga champions are drawn into UEFA Champions League first qualifying round. The second and third placed teams qualify for the UEFA Europa League first qualifying round.

Serbian SuperLiga History
The Yugoslav First League began in 1923 and featured the best clubs from the former Yugoslavia. In 1991, clubs from Slovenia and Croatia left to form their own individual leagues.
In 1992 clubs from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Macedonia also left to form their own leagues.
The Yugoslav First League was played from 1992 with clubs from Serbia and Montenegro. In 2006 Montenegro declared independence and formed its own league.
The competition was renamed the Serbian SuperLiga in 2006 formed exclusively by clubs from Serbia.
