Head to Head

This will be the first match between Cornella and Barcelona.

Cornella Form

Cornella have failed to win in their last six matches in the Segunda B, Spain’s third division. The club from the outskirts of Barcelona failed to score in four consecutive matches.

Guillermo Fernández’s side produced a huge shock in the Copa del Rey 2nd round. They won 1-0 at home against Atletico Madrid, Adrián Jiménez scoring in the 7th minute and holding on after the visitors were reduced to 10 men in the 63rd minute.

Cornella returned to the Segunda B with two draws on the road. They drew 2-2 at Gimnàstic Tarragona and 2-2 at Olot thanks to Agus Medina’s 90th minute penalty.

Cornella Injuries & Team News

Cornella centre-back Adrián Jiménez, the hero of the previous round, is out for the season after suffering a cruciate ligament rupture.

Barcelona Form

Barcelona recently won three straight matches in La Liga, all on the road. The Catalan club won 1-0 at Huesca, 3-2 at Athletic Bilbao and 4-0 at Granada.

Ronald Koeman’s side competed in the Spanish Super Cup last week. Barcelona got past Real Sociedad in the semi-final, prevailing in a penalty shootout after the match ended in a 1-1 draw following extra time.

Barcelona looked set to lift the trophy after leading Athletic Bilbao 2-1 in the 90th minute. They conceded a late equaliser and again in extra time with Lionel Messi getting sent off.

Barcelona Injuries & Team News

Barcelona remain without injured centre-back Gerard Piqué, right back Moussa Wagué and the versatile Sergi Roberto. Full back Sergiño Dest is out with muscular problems.

Attacking midfielder Philippe Coutinho and forward Ansu Fati are also injured.

Influential forward Lionel Messi is suspended but was unlikely to start here anyway.

Expect Koeman to make changes here after two tough matches in the Super Cup. Midfielder Miralem Pjanic is set to return to the starting side alongside winger Trincão and striker Martin Braithwaite.
