Athletic Bilbao Form

Athletic Bilbao have been inconsistent this season. The Basque club left it late to win 2-0 at home against Huesca before a 1-1 draw at Villarreal.

Gaizka Garitano’s side lost 1-0 at home against Real Sociedad in the derby where they hardly looked like scoring. Bilbao bounced back with a 1-0 home win against Elche thanks to Iker Muniain.

It wasn’t enough to save Garitano who was sacked. Former Sevilla, Villarreal and Valencia manager Marcelino takes over.

Athletic Bilbao Injuries & Team News

Athletic Bilbao centre-back Peru Nolaskoain remains out injured alongside Yeray Álvarez. Íñigo Martínez should partner Unai Núñez in central defence.

Midfielder Unai López is injured.

Marcelino could implement his preferred 4-4-2 system with Raúl García partnering Iñaki Williams up front.

Barcelona Form

Barcelona are undefeated in their last six matches in La Liga. The Catalan club won 1-0 against Levante and 2-1 against Real Sociedad at home before a 2-2 draw against Valencia.

Ronald Koeman’s side won 3-0 at Real Valladolid with Clément Lenglet, Martin Braithwaite and Lionel Messi on target. Braithwaite then missed an early penalty in a 1-1 draw against Eibar.

Barcelona’s last match was a 1-0 win at Huesca. Messi assisted Frenkie de Jong for the winner in a match where they had 69% possession, 20-4 shots and 3.21-0.26 expected goals.

Barcelona Injuries & Team News

Barcelona remain without injured centre-back Gerard Piqué and the versatile Sergi Roberto.

Attacking midfielder Philippe Coutinho and forward Ansu Fati are also injured.

Midfielder Miralem Pjanic is set to return to the starting side alongside French forward Antoine Griezmann.
