Atletico Madrid come into this match with broken spirits. They defeated Real Madrid 1-0 on Wednesday in the Champions League Round of 16 (2-2 on aggregate) but suffered a dramatic penalty shootout exit.

Diego Simeone’s side has struggled to secure wins in La Liga recently. After a 1-1 draw against Celta Vigo in mid-February, they recorded back-to-back victories, beating Valencia 3-0 and Athletic Bilbao 1-0.

However, last weekend’s 2-1 loss at Getafe proved costly, dropping Atleti to 3rd place in La Liga. They took the lead through Alexander Sorloth in the 75th minute but conceded in the 88th and 90th minutes to lose the match.

Barcelona Form

Barcelona’s form and results in La Liga have been impeccable in the last couple of weeks, securing six consecutive victories and currently lead the title race.

They earned four straight wins in February against Alaves 1-0, Sevilla 4-1, Rayo Vallecano 1-0 and Las Palmas 2-0, while starting March with a commanding 4-0 home victory against Real Sociedad.

Blaugrana’s two most recent appearances were in the Champions League, beating Benfica 1-0 in Portugal, and 3-1 at home to secure the quarterfinals clash against Borussia Dortmund. Raphinha was unstoppable in these duels, scoring three goals.

Team News

Atletico’s Angel Correa was sent off last weekend against Getafe, so he won’t be available on Sunday. Koke and Rodrigo De Paul are doubtful.

Good news for Barcelona is that long-term absentee Andreas Christensen will most likely be on the bench, while Marc Bernal and Marc-Andre ter Stegen remain sidelined with injuries.
